Anyone else played this?
I wasn't expecting much, I just figured I should give this a try - expecting it to be another NWN lookalike, but now halfway through chapter 3, this game just keeps on surprising me. The gameplay itself is pretty basic; you've got two swords, three combat styles for each, and you can mix potions and blade coatings to get bonuses during combat. The story however, is incredibly rich and complex. It took me nearly all day yesterday to figure out just how to get into a tower - had to research books, lore, get mixed into a bunch of side stories. I know I'm playing a game, but at times it feels more like reading a good book. It's pretty obvious you're not playing an average game by a big known devellopper because the action takes some liberal twists and turns and sometimes goes places where no other gaming universe would dare venture (and I'm not just talking about the gratuitous sex and violence). It's... dare I say, refreshing? |

| Wouldn't recommend it unless you like heavily story-driven RPGs though. The combat is an afterthought and you'll spend most of the time talking to NPCs. There's a demo that lets you play most of chapter 1, probably worth checking that out first. |

The only RPG's I find good are the ones that are aimed heavily on story. |

it feels like a book, because its based on the most successful polish fantasy series by mr Sapkowski
I have yet to check it out |

finally picked up the enhanced edition. I love it. There are a few things about the gameplay i don't like. Other then that, its got a great story (i'm in chapter 2)
Lots of swearing and violence ( I hear its dummed down for the English version unfortunately).
Graphics are really good. |

| It's got mad reviews but I just couldn't get past the fighting mechanism in the demo so I didn't bother getting it. |

I gave this game a truly unfair amount of chances to hook me, but it just never quite did.
There's really nothing wrong it whatsoever though. The graphics and world are gorgeous, the animations and character design are great, the story is extensive and involving, the character system is deep and versatile and combat is smooth yet intuitive.
Not quite sure why I didn't like it... probably has a great deal to do with the fact that your main character, Geralt, is somebody else's fantasy creation. You don't get to customize his look or really his skills/talents or anything like that. I prefer to have a blank slate to deal with that I get to fit into a story with my own considerations, not play somebody else's story out. |
