PCDJ beatmatching

Question for PCDJ users:

Do you totally ignore the BPM on the songs? I've been trying to stray from BPMing the songs, and just beatmatch by ear. I'm using the Numark DMC-1...is there a way to finely adjust the pitch? It seems that the sliders on the DMC-1 radically increase/decrease pitch.

If I use the BPM method, here's what happens:

-Start song A
-Cue song B, match BPMs
-Start song B on song A's outro
-Beatmatch in my 'phones using pitch bend
-Bring in the live mix
-Songs stay beatmatched for 5-10 seconds
-Hang on the pitch while the mix is live to maintain beatmatch

I know, I know...start mixing with TTs...but unfortunately space and money are playing a factor here. Just wondering if any PCDJ trancers have a good beatmatching method down.

Thanks :)

Hi!...
I use PCDJ when i mix on the computer, and practiced with it before i started with real equipment.
I use pcdj almost like i use tt:s..... no bpm you know...

while song A is running cue song B and play...
if song B is faster than song A, you have to turn the pitch up high and til the beats are matched and turn the pitch down again but a little bit higher than it was before...do this til the beats are matched without haveing to touch the pitch or the bend, you know what i mean...
Like i do forward-back cue spinning with the vinyl when its time to start song B, i hold down shift button and press play (F2 of F6 depending on wich player song B is on) doing that makes the song play from the cue possition and you press play button til you know exactly where the first beat on song B is... start song B and then ur beatmatched... hopefully.
I learned beatmatching with pcdj.

Cool, thanks for the suggestion :)

I'll give it a shot this weekend.

Just curious...which version of PCDJ did you use? Red or Blue?
AnD
red...

try virtual turntables (vtt)
its better than pcdj... eq:s and stuff you know ;)
t0ast!
the eq's in VTT blow bigtime. the latency is crap. the only good way to mix mp3s is to use an external mixer. i've been mixing with deejaysystem mkI and VTT for a while now and find that its the only way to fly...the external mixer, i mean. they come pretty cheap too for ones with eq's on 'em. and we all know how cheap soundcards can get, so having 2 seperate outs on yer PC isn't hard to comeby.

Agreed, I'm using a Stanton external mixer. Nothing fancy, but I definitely need it. Also using the SB extigy soundcard, I can get two seperate channels out of that.

I stopped extracting bpm on all of my trance tracks. Now I just load them into the player, play them, and beatmatch by ear. I'm no pro, but I'm learning, and it sounds much better than auto-matching the songs...to hell with BPMs!

Me ear is a hell of alot better than that damn bpm extractor.

me personaly would never spend money on mp3 hardware like controlers etc...
rather spend the money on records or equipment like techs, mixers etc...
