Release info
If Nico Grubert is only remembered for two of the many tracks he had produced so far, it will be an awesome legacy. And the current artist`s debut on Cologne`s authentic music imprint is probably among his best tracks ever, with a special cutting edge exposition of transcendental electrickery, powerful and as an upcoming passionate Tech-House classic with enduring appeal. The Native East German, now based in Zuerich (CH) records and also works as a well known remixer under his own name since years but also morphs in and out over labels like 38db-Tonsportgruppe, Zimmer-Records, Musicartistry, Antiritmo, Skript, Definition Records and Whirlpoolsex Music. His tunes very often take surprisingly freestyle jaunts around traditional 4/4 dance norms. And it might be no wonder that "Sound Of Music" so eases quirky electronics over irresistibly cool Tech-House loops. Simply that`s what free electronic music is all about. Both wax-sides work different on the dancefloor but complementary stretch out with fierce drum arrangements, breaks and big, big bass to control the crowd.
Each one compliments the other nicely: "Pacific Hologram" hits the spot from the start with gleaming kinetic chords and piano riffs encase vital rhythms which urge towards freeform tech-house impro and where polished surface production gilds over some essentially subversive structuralism. While "Screwdriver" welds house funkin` magic, searing flickering Electro plus Euro-PostAcid and a gliding Detroit rational into textural, sensurreal bliss. The upside finally is the dope side with one evil slammin` shuffle-track like "Sunset Boulevard" that builds sonic skyscrapers out of snares and silences, majestic ruins out of sighs and segues and explodes as one of the most transcendentally jackin` tracks ever recorded. Dancing or listening to this is like running barefoot through the deserted set of a just-excavated Biblical epic. And Gruber`s tightly constructed " La Dolce Vita " track finally sees the light of the day with it`s strictly continuation to expand, impress and redefine the parameters of dubbed out Space-House by using rigid loops, organic grind and rubbery tension earmark for the discerning segue.
"Sound Of Music" works as a perfect inspired, genre surfing 4-Tracker. Satisfaction and happiness Gruber`s music continues to give cannot be conveyed in so few words. But it infects all listeners diverse and directional as another classic example of breakin` Techno and House boundaries today!
