You'll be able to see where a breakdown occurs by looking at a trance song's overall waveform (if the song contains a breakdown). If it's still peaking at 0dB at that point it's going to sound very odd and there'll be no buildup of energy at all heading into where the other elements come back in.

Not every song will have a breakdown, but many still do, and you'll be able to see some shape to a trance song. More so than some other genres which hit 0dB from start to finish.

Deadmau5 and Maor Levi both mix into the limiter ....curiously how do you set up your limiter to mix into ?....is it set to half the gain of what youll use total?

Try to leave the master channel empty, please.

I usually put a limiter on the master track after mastering each individual track. I find that this works a lot better than compression, which is what I used to do, and it would make my songs sound distorted, a bit messy and just plain TOO LOUD.
With the limiter, I limit the track not to the point where it sounds "fine" but to where there's hardly anything being cut off, just the frequencies that really stick out like a sore thumb. This is where watching the waveform comes in. That's the last step before I mix down. Then I take the track and use Wavepad to normalize the audio so that the volume is boosted to the highest frequency of the track without audio distortion.
I'd really recommend this process, it's allowed me to keep the track at a decent level volume while retaining all the dynamics of the audio.

When some of the best producers on the planet are doing it theres a reason....not to question your opinion but this is very common practise ....here deadmau5 talks about why he does it ......http:// http://www.emusician.com/ar...deadmau5/150322
And Maor Levi as well

Now as i was saying are any of you guys doing this and how do you set the limiter to mix through?

Ok so just before any peaks are squashed

wasn't that hard.

Put one limiter on before, then add a second one after. Maybe a third to top it off if I am feeling daring.

Dont forget to put one in-between.

So in otherwords spread the workload evenly across both limiters ?.....is this for better transparency? Ive also noticed they teach mixing with a limiter at dubspot as well.
