I assume what im looking for is sub bass advice

I am of the era of 99 trance this is what i got into and loved. Dont get me wrong i love it all but a lot of people have commented that although they like my songs they saound like they would be a hit in 96-99.
I write a bassline kick bass kick bass etc standard trance. This i feel is the cliche people are highlighting in my tracks. I have analysed some of my new cds etc not all tracks in fact a lot dont have a noticable off beat bass. They just sound really full and pumping even if its a softish track. I can hear basslines but some are electro ones with a sawtooth style buzzer. this of course has no bottom end but the track is full and you can feel if not hear the movement of the low end.
Is this sub bass?
Can it be easily heard by someone trying to work a track out?
does the sub bass go kick bass kick bass or is there more to it?
I can write jumpy basslines i just feel sometimes they mess up my mix a bit and dont have enough low end.
Lots of questions here but I have been trying to write modern stuff for two years and end up giving upafter making a beat with some effects etc.
I hope someone can shed light on this for me. |

| there are infinite bassline patterns... and also sub basses... try experimenting, and keep in mind if you make an on beat bass you gotta have more equing and side-chaining on that, also try compressing the bass and kick togather, i do it all the time, it helps me determine bass levels and helps me throughout the mixing process... |

| thanks for all the help vortex an various threads. I will start a thread for this if you like but. I read all about side chain comp in my book so i appreciate what it does. In cubase you dont have like in reason side chain inputs you cant exactly flip it round and connect a channel to the side of the multiband? how is side chain applied in cubase? |

if you have cubase 4 or cubase studio 4 the compressor in there has a side chain function now. |

| yeah great i have sx 2 right now so old version Ill try to get 4 when I can afford. So in sx their is no side chain? |

| Probably no sidechain in SX2. You could use a freeware VST such as Sidekick, it does the job. |
