Think of a this

Baa baa black sheep (Question)

Have you any wool (second part of question)

yes sir yes sir (first answer)

3 bags full (second part of answer)

before you take the piss this is in a trance production book and my friends tutor at music college said it as well. Still wish i had a better example than that LOL

Maybe a crazy question.
I play a lot with variations, quantizing, shuffles, delays and I can't figure out whether its because I KNOW its looping that it sounds like its looping or if anyone has any special tips to make a loop sound more like its driving and moving forward rather than going in circles?

I was watching a couple computer music vids where they offset the loop like 20ms ahead of the kick drum but it always friggn sounds like its going in circles.
Is this a head game because it always seems when I hear another persons track, and can't see how it was designed, that it seems less like its going in circles. I'm thinking about doing like 8 or even 16 bar percussion variations but that seems a little extreme.
"that`s where sidechaing helps,ie ad a siechain to your loop just enough to make it move onto the directin you want"

kick - 4bar
hihat1 - 4bar , flank ghost notes either side,reverb,delay
hihat2 - 4bar , lower velocity on 2nd and 4th,reverb ,delay
hihat3 - 8 bar , same as above but vary the lay out ,reverb , delay
hihat4 - 4 bar , usually a shaker but i dont always use that
clap (aka the bitch)-4 bar , ghost , delay , reverb , compress

also i timesretch notes , but do all of the above in the sequencer , could use a plugin but i find the above fun and interesting to do

the term i think you use to unloop or undo a repetive sound is humanising sound , someone may need to confirm that!

hope that helps

yep now run it over a 16 bar loop. mix down run it over another 16 bar loop slightly diff setting or whatever you now have 32 bars of interesting loopy madness.

ive just run it over a 16 bar lead synth and automated the 2 timestretcher knobs and got a great build up noise , bit like a car engine speeding up , i think i might use it for effects aswell , gonna have a play now :-)

I find a good way of masking loop points is to take the sample into a wave editor and use a fade out/fade in on the beginning and end of the loop - it needs only be like a miliseconds worth of edit, barely noticible by ear, but gets rid of that annoying loop point 'click'
Then adding a small amount of reverb (with prominent tail) can mask the effect quite well.

This tends to work better on single sounds (pads/synths etc.) rather than drum samples and the like.
Subtle
Putting a gate on a loop can help too.

So what is the big deal with people who maybe don’t know as much as you asking a question you do not have to answer on a forum designed to share production knowledge?

SO

Newbie questions Vs Experienced producers getting annoyed share your thoughts!!!!

All the newbie questions have been answered a million times before, and if the newcomers would take the time to read the sticky labeled "Please Read: Music Production FAQ", they would find that there is no need to create a new thread.
