| There's no harm in telling it how it is. Misleading people into thinking there is a universal definition for a mix title is why these threads keep coming up. You should be erasing the myth, not perpetuating it. There's no science in naming tracks. |

no, the reason these threads keep coming up is because people don't use their brains :p
it takes five minutes to listen to two versions of a track and figure out why one is called the club mix and one is the original |

| In some cases, the original mix was never released to the public, for example Tiesto - Theme From Norefjell. The only mix by Tiesto himself people have heard is the Magikal version. Or it was released, but the remix got much more play, and everyone thought of that as the "original". |

let's not even get into what 'dub' means LOL |
Wasn't dub invented by Jamaicans?
Dub means that you strip off all voices in the record and grab a microphone
Well in reggae dub, is a record with stripped off vocals with could end up in countless of different versions with mc's rhyming over the top called dubs or later (remixes).... well i got it right? |

yeah 'dubbing' is a technique invented by jamaicans
but the reason I said that is that some people now use the word to mean anything with less vocals (myself included at times), even though it might not be produced in the same way that actual jamaican 'dub' is produced
it's just a stupid technical difference |

Well, i thought dubbing was not just about vocals.
I thought it was only about the arrangements. More emphasis on the bass and more stripped-down version of a track.
I might be wrong though. |

lol this is what I mean
there are a lot of ways to look at what a 'dub' is now, but in the 60s and 70s, dub meant a very specific thing |

Wow, I wasn't expecting this topic to last so long .. and anyway, the only reason I was wondering about this was because I tend to take the original mix tag off songs (don't know why, just do).
Oh yeah, and the way I worded the original question made it sound like I've never understood the difference between original and club, it was only when releases contained one or the other when I started to question what they meant. But anyway, I know the answer now, thanks :) |
