| throw it all away. You'll never get rid of it fully. Or move apartment. |

| fix fire with fire. Do it. The flames are tantalizingly sensual, aren't they? The way they dance about erasing all the bad and replacing it with black. Only black. Black and the forgotten. |

you can hire a steam cleaning firm, they do a good job but even then it isn't guaranteed that it will leave. It is a very pungent odor and you might be stuck with it. It will never just go away as it is not like liquid (piss ect) that dries and is cleaned. Smoke and burning really penetrates and sticks around.
cor answer : pee on your stuff to make it smell different. |

insurance?
it depends what has been burnt, because once it becomes toast, it can't become bread again as someone once said. The smell will remain on anything that got turned into ashes, u can mask it a bit with air fresheners & like that, but I don't think it'll cover it up much at all. It's such a distinct smell and strong, i'd say you'd be lucky to get rid of it. |

right. don't use insurance for that. I thought u meant maybe the carpet/flooring/more substantial damage. Open the window, get some air freshener (maybe a plug in one) and scrub the area down around it. good cleaning agents like cif also have a nice fragrance which will mask smells a bit. I was thinking more along the 'bigger' scale of things, which would obviously be worth the insurance help, but for what your premium would go up for claiming (well going by uk standards anyway) it wouldn't be worth it! |
