Yeah, just like civil liberties and rolling back authoritarian legislation are a big concern for voters today right? LOL, dream on. People don't really seem to have much of a problem with the erosion of democratic institutions and values. They seem to be more than satisfied and pacified being corporate whores. |
People probably won't do anything until they've lost their bread and circuses and even then they'll probably be arguing about the insignificant specifics on how they actually lost them (just like our civil liberties, which only a fraction of the country even seems to care about.) |

Yeah, that's the way it's been historically. People don't do until they have nothing to loose. At the moment, it's pretty easy for people to turn a blind eye to the obvious and remain ignorant or apathetic. All illusions are shattered by that point and the authoritarian tyranny is too damn obvious to deny anymore. |

So the Mayan understood IP, TCP / UDP, routing, and packet switching? Did they also have a concept of net neutrality? LOL, did they make a 2012 firewall? Are you done jacking off now? |

People often mock what they don't understand.
It's pretty much the same way that they use thought-terminating cliche's such as "conspiracy theory" to quell their cognitive dissonance when confronted with something that they're subconsciously uncomfortable with.
As Bill Cooper said in his Hour of The Time Broadcast entitled Secret Societies and Psychological Warfare,
| quote: | What the alchemical managers have bred over a millennia is a human race of the most wretched stupidity and ignorance unrivaled in thousands of years. These blind slaves are told they are free and highly educated and they believe it, even if they march behind signs that would cause any medieval peasant to run screaming away from them in panic stricken terror.
The symbols that modern man embraces with the naive trust of an infant would be tantamount to billboards reading "THIS WAY TO YOUR DEATH AND ENSLAVEMENT" to the understanding of a traditional peasant of antiquity. |

Modern man has lost all recognition of the most fundamental archetypes and the distorted subversive use of them. It is hard to objectively analyze their impact though. |

well, i guess when 2013 ticks round we'll see what, if anything, has happened. its a nice change of pace for the doomsday people to give us a fairly precise date with which to judge their conspiracy theory.
i dont see it being immune to collusion law. i certainly dont understand why the rest of the corporate world would favour a system whereby they made it more difficult to reach their consumer. if i don't feel like paying for the right to access this more privatised internet, how are they going to sell me all their ? :conf:
i see no major impediment to preventing such an occurrence by law (if indeed no laws currently exist to prevent it) and as has already been mentioned, i can see it being a powerful force in government policy (ie elections) of the future.
whilst governments frequently act as an agent of the propertied class(es ?), the so-called 'elite' are not all powerful in human relations. and i can't see them winning this one. but i doubt its true anyway.
[tangent]
and this is what i dont understand about you more 'anarchistic' types - you constantly bemoan the great evils of government, im wondering what stands between private industry and john citizen if not the state? sure, private industry often use government to john, but john sometimes gets to back.
all the problems that you guys identify and rail against, i see all those problems being even worse in any plausible alternative you might be able to show me. anarcho-syndicalism i find rather implausible, and thats the only genre of anarchism i am familiar with. obviously that is far too much like socialism for you guys so im kinda in the dark.
imo, any other system of social/economic/political stratification would see the corporate powerhouse becoming even more all-encompassing and all-powerful than it is currently.
edit: haha, that smiley was a total accident. but fitting!! :stongue: |

10 characteristics of conspiracy theorists
A useful guide by Donna Ferentes
1. Arrogance. They are always fact-seekers, questioners, people who are trying to discover the truth: sceptics are always "sheep", patsies for Messrs Bush and Blair etc. |

Don't even begin to lump me in the doomsday group. I'm rather skeptic of what some old farts dressed in blue sitting in their lodges wrote centuries ago. , even Masons think they're nuts. Even students of the esoteric, at least the intelligent ones, have strong rationalists leaning are not ing dupes. Stargazing and astrological motifs are not a pass time I engage in. I have more important things to do than waste my time on irrelevant crap like that. I like sticking to observable reality governed by the laws of physics. |

oh no, of course not.
and im not talking about any of the astro theology crap either. that one has already done my head in :( im talking purely about the internet as discussed in this thread (as i hope is obvious from the rest of my post).
i just appreciate it when people that cry 'the sky is falling' actually give me a time by which i can judge their predictions :) |

I think you'll be rather disappointed, and it will be another day... the only surprise will be how bored out of your skull you'll be and how many bowls you'll end up packing :p. |
