Lol, nah - it's actually up on other forums you and I both post on. ;)

I didn't post it on TA because I know lots of you guys personally - not just here in MWTA, but from all over the world - and knew that a handful of you would be the only ones who'd tolerate me not posting a tracklist and asking for feedback based on my description and the fact that you know ahead of time it's a "Rob Turner set."

Easy enough to track down if you need it - otherwise, I'm sure the next 13 days will go quickly :p

Sadly, for all my efforts in "sucking up" (/cross thread sarcasm), gigs have been in shorter and shorter supply, and are likely to become even fewer as I'm probably about to take a job doing environmental consulting and will be both moving away from Milwaukee and traveling a bit much to pursue too many regular gigs.

Will keep you posted on what nights I'll be out for in the next few weeks though - just not sure of much at the moment.

Thanks again for grabbing this, and happy birthday. :)

thanks buddy.

do you plan on heading down on the 30th?

definitely let me know when/where you'll be spinning sometime, this should be a rather easy semester, so I will be quite capable of making a trip somewhere.

All depends on how the next few days go, will keep you posted.

I'm also hoping to revive an old residency this fall if I can manage it - but I've only just begun to sort that out. Also, if you're still going to be up at UWEC this fall, I'm actually coming to play in Ashland, Eau Claire, and *maybe* Minneapolis this fall.

Will definitely let you know. :)

Bah, you flatter me undeservedly. This is just me playing the music I like the way I think it should be played - I'm pretty grateful for every other person who listens to it and enjoys it.

And "Ghosts in my Machine" was a tune I bought ages ago but just couldn't manage to play as often as I'd wanted to. Just seemed perfect that it fit in here.

I will be at UWEC for one more year... :) My girlfriend attends UofM, so you should let me know if you are in Eau Claire or Minneapolis. I'd definitely make the drive. I go to Minneapolis once a month as it is.

No tracklist puts me in bad shape on the recognition of tunes (but I understand a reason for not posting it)

Lemos - Blow It. Monster.

Not sure what tune starts to come in around 26:15, but I love that squibbly sound.

Fierce Urgency of Now. I remember when I first started playing around in Ableton a few years back I started out throwing "I have a dream" next to some, what I now call, embarrassing trance. Sidenote, I've always thought Malcolm X was a much more persuasive speaker. Although I disagree with him in the sense that he doesn't believe in peaceful revolution.

I want the track names of the tunes I'm mentioning, but the one that comes in after the speech I must know (34:00ish). It's so damn funky.

Taking a leap forward, 52 minute mark, Turn It Around. Interesting track. I definitely liked it. The first time I heard this track was when I was first starting to get into electronic music, so 9th grade. Paul Oakenfold EM Havana Cuba 1999. I guess I am partial to (I have no ing clue what mix of it was played in the EM) that version.

And I was interrupted... 4 hours later...

The last tune is really cool. I thought it kinda came out of nowhere, but I really do like the track. Definitely has an Asian feel to it. Some nice strings and perhaps a wooden flute, really relaxed track.

Overall it was pretty fun, and definitely some solid tracks. I suppose I will throw in some criticism since it's beneficial, I did think some of the tracks were a bit out of place. I mean, I like randomness, and I think different styles can mix, and I know you know your track selection, I just thought some things felt out of place. Moving this to xkcd\Live.Mixes.&.Promos\RJT. :D

Yeah - I've definitely played around with all the bog-standard MLK speeches, but still think Nick Warren's edit of Criss Source - Hugs & Kisses that featured it was the best.

The tunes that the fierce urgency of now speech winds up on top of are two different sides of the newest Layo & Bushwacka release (Fun Fact: Layo & Bushwacka have been in the last three promo sets I put out), and I just liked the way it came out.

As for Malcolm X being a more powerful speaker - I totally agree, though for me it's actually because I do think he believed in a peaceful revolution. I don't think he was an even remotely convincing speaker until he left the Nation of Islam later in life and rejected Elijah Muhammad's racism and hypocrisy following Malcolm's pilgrimage to Mecca.

Regardless, I was happy this all worked out. :)

Rocco - Thursday Night, Friday Morning (Original Mix) [Buzzin' Fly] [2007, 2008]

To be honest, I think a lot of people are confusing this one with Alena - Turn it Around [?] (1999). There is a fair bit of overlap in the lyrics, but I don't believe that Rocco's version was necessarily a cover. Been trying to track down some more information on the initial release of this one, though - because I swear I had heard this version years ago too, but it couldn't have been more than 5 as it was recently rereleased on the Buzzin' Fly 5 Golden Years in the Wilderness compilation.

I can definitely sympathize with those kinds of thoughts - and in truth, I guess the eclectic nature of this may have had more to do with me trying to fit the ADD/Gonzo theme.

Thanks loads for the well thought out review, bro - I really, really appreciate it.

Got your PM as well, but it's been a busy few days - will get back to you this afternoon.

:)

Really great mix, Rob! Perfect conglomo of the kind of stuff I've been digging lately. There were a couple of tunes in there I recognized, but mostly new tracks to me. Then you finish it up with that classic Incubus track- was surprised to hear that.

My opinion of the mix in perspective:
Listened to it, dimmed the lights, and was sad when it ended.
Put on Balance 013 (CD1) for the first time, got about half way through...

Put Rob Turner - Gonzo back on.

Nice job :D

Now there's a name I haven't seen pop up in a while - glad to see you around again, Dan! Last time I heard from you I think you had just moved to Chicago - planning on heading out for anything soon?

In any event - I'm really, really glad you enjoyed this one bro, thank you for listening. That was probably some of the highest praise I've received for just about anything I've done.

:)

since I don't have a functioning computer or an internet connection right now you should burn a brotha a copy before you move back. If necessary I'll provide the cd-r
