Hey all. Im from the Ol' US, and im going to be in england/scotland for about a month this year before I head off to southern europe. I was wondering if I could get a succint clear list of places to go for great clubs. Ill be travelling extensively so anywhere is the limit :) I need to know dress code to like can I bring tennis shoes/sneakers? Some places dont like you to do that. Any help on this would be great! top of the day to you guvnahs ;) (hey im English descendant I can talk like that!)

Undoubtedly you'll wanna go to Gatecrasher (Sheffield or London) during our stay. If your coming during the summer months you'll probably be able to go to a festival (SSS, Creamfields, GG).

A trip to Godskitchen (Birmingham) will prolly be worth it too. Mebbe Passion (Coalville) and Slinky (Bournemouth, Bristol) if you're into it a bit harder.

At the clubs above I think they all let you in with trainers, if you wanna go to some lesser known clubs then you'll need a pair of proper shoes. Some places also insist on smart clubbing wear, GC and GK dont.

Yeah wear what the hell you want for Crasher, Godskitchen, Promise, Sugarshack, Slinky etc. People go in all sorts, from mock up TV screens on their heads to cyber gear to anything you can think of. Then there's those of us that just go for the music in a t-shirt :D For smaller clubs, ask on this board. If it's a trance club, one of us will know about it and will be able to answer.

For the festivals obviously it's wear what you want. For Summer Sound System, all the UK bunch are going as hippies. For Global Gathering, we are considering going as Monks.

I shouldn't need to list the lineup for Global Gathering or Summer Sound System by now, but if you need any other festival lineups, just ask.

Not quite :) Most are pretty relaxed but you can't wear whatever you like. Trainer are OK but be careful at Godskitchen because they're very picky. They seem to want you to be either in cyber, or smart urban/clubwear (eg smart trainers, combats, smart t-shirt or shirt). Take a pair of shoes with you to wear just in case, last time I went to Godskitchen they didn't like my trainers and asked me to show them what I was wearing under by coat. It was a plain black t-shirt and they were OK in the end. Jeans are pretty much a no-no at all of them, but you'll get away with light denim. It's worth remembering that if a club is unexpectedly busy one night, they're going to have to turn some people away from the door and they'll use the dresscode as the first excuse to do this.

All in all though don't worry, as long as you don't look scruffy and your trainers aren't covered in e then you'll be OK. Let us know when you're here and we'll have a TA meetup.

Sweet hope you can make it to the Gatecrasher Summer Sound System on the 22nd then:)

Do I need to do anything special to prepare for summer sound system? Are tickets gonna be a problem if im there just a day or two before? How much does it cost?

gatecrasher site didnt help me at all lol. not much info and its all in pounds!
Kinuvan
I think the cost of the ticket is just over 75 USD. Not sure about availablity of tickets that close to the event:conf: As for anything you'll need, well a spare pair of clothes would come in handy no doubt cos if it doesn't rain i bet you get squirted with a water gun.

Yeah it would be sensible to bring shoes just in case.

For Promise absolutely anything goes. My mate had a vinyl hanging from his neck last time, but that's nothing compared to some of the stuff they get. It's often a very mixed crowd, from people in weird and wonderful stuff, to people in t-shirts. It's not quite the sea of reflective cyber stuff you'd see at Crasher, but the strangest people at Promise probably surpass anywhere else. Some very weird stuff. The bouncers couldn't care less, except for one of them, who is a bit of a psycho!

Orbax, use this site to convert currencies:

Summer Sound System costs £49, which is $71. However, there is another 10% booking fee.

I would get it booked now if I were you, and if you're coming on the 20th, it's too big a thing to miss.

The next big event is the Godskitchen Global Gathering I believe, which is on July 27th. I think that will be the biggest meetup, TAs from quite a few countries going for that one, but both events will have big meetups.

cool guys, thanks again for this info its really helping. So with SSS2002 anything goes, thats cool. You were mentioning cyber reflecto wear for normal gatecrasher? I mean dangit im livin out of a back pack here hehe I cant be carryin that around for a year! If I just wore some white aikido pants, some flat expensive ass leather shoes, a black teeshirt and a light blue short sleeve button up that has a dragon curling around the entire body up to the neck would I be kosher? Im bringing a couple of shirts like a black silk one with this weird red embroidered design on it and stuff, but are they really that strict bout it? And the girl im goin wiff aint gonna have stuff shes all burdened down with her favorite shampoo and hehe she has NO room for that stuff. Whats a poor american to do?!

I'll leave the dresscode of Crasher to the regulars, I've never been to Republic (Crasher's home, although it is unfortunately going monthly instead of weekly in June).

Shirts will come in handy if you find yourself dragged along to a cheesy club, many insist on that.

Most bouncers seem to kick lads out for all sorts of reasons, yet lasses are never kicked out whatever they wear, only ever denied because of age or are too hammered. (don't forget the age limit for drinking is only 18 here, although very very few clubs do require that you're 21, but none that you'll want to go to I'm sure ;) ), That is just in my experience anyway.
