Reason and CPU temps...
View this Thread in Original format

Im using reason 4 with an AMD 5000 Black Edition CPU, and when I get to quite a busy part of the song, my CPU temp hits 90-95 oC, it's a bit worrying really.

Anybody else have similar problems or suggestions ?

Thanks.

Wow 90 Celsius ?

Thats far beyond shutdown temperature.

You`re suggesting he doesn`t have a cooler ?
Sonic_c
No I am suggesting he gets an additional fan. In my unit I have 7 fans and nothing ever ever gets hot. More fans less heat safer system.

I never used to have this problem, it only made itself apparent when one day I was just using my machine and it just turned itself off. At first I thought it was just a powecut and the realised it wasnt and after a bit of investigation realised it was the CPU getting hot.

It tends to idle at 60-70 oC and go upto 90+ under heavy load, which is not good. I was thinking about getting a new cpu fan and reapply the silicon coolin gel (or whatever it's called - ive forgot! lol)

It does also bring into question as to how accurate the temperature is being read, but if the machine turned itself off then it must be getting pretty damn hot! lol

The 5000+ is a relatively cool CPU, unless u overclock.

You should try to re-apply the heatsink, the CPU should not be this warm if you have done everything correctly.

I have a similar CPU (6000) and mine is idling at 50 C and 60+ under load, which is also very hot.

You could also try to see if your fan is spinning at the right tempo, your fan should now be very loud, if it isnt that might be the problem.

it's not overclocked and the fan is at a constant 2300 - 2500 rpm.

Thats the problem then, because with those fan speeds there is no wonder your CPU is hot.

Right now my fan is running at 4900 rpm and my CPU is 55 C.

You should check your BIOS for anything related to your fan speed, depending on which motherboard you have.

hmmm, i'll have to go and check that then. I think I have the fan set to 100% duty cycle or something.

Damn that is WAY hot and is near thermal failure. What does it sit idle at? Your CPU should be sitting idle anywhere in the 30-40 Celcius range. I can't believe your system did not shutdown. Try the Freezer Pro 7 its pretty cheap and does a good job of cooling. I use it on my E8500 to OC it almost 1Ghz over stock speed and it does a good job.
palm
mines rarely above 45-50 degrees without any complicated cooling. the cpu has a fan normaly running at 1300 and the cab has some running at unknows speed, has a switch behind with low/med/hi-speed lol, sounds cheap. its at low tho. nothing more. u might consider a new CPU?
i also have heard of some sticky cooling liquid to put on the CPU? no experience with it tho.

edit: subtle said it already, didnt read the whole post first
