It has taken me a little while to be back up to speed and ready to write this, but here we go...
Friday Night
I left Toronto at 11pm and got into London the next morning just after 11am London time. I flew into Heathrow and met Vrk at Stanstead, which is about a 90 minute bus ride away. I was already pretty exhausted at this point but was looking forward to seeing an old friend who I rarely see. I believe that there is nothing better in life than seeing an old friend who's been gone for a long time. Seeing Vrk waiting at the bus stop for me at Stanstead airport added proof for my theory, instantly bringing a tear to my eye.
We had a layover in London for a few hours which meant that by the time we got to Ibiza we had both been travelling for nearly 24 hours. Not exactly well. It would have been nice to get right into our hotel and go to bed but the hotel where we were booked to stay in Playa D'en Bossa (right across the street from Space) didn't have our reservation, despite us having a confirmation number and having already paid a deposit.
We did all of our booking through Ibiza Spotlight. After this experience I would strongly suggest never using them for any sort of booking. We found that they act as a middle man between you and the hotel, then if something goes wrong it is their error so the hotel has no obligation to help you, and Ibiza spotlight does not own up to their mistake or provide you with any support.
The result of this was that we had to go to San Antonio for 2 nights before being able to find another reservation in Playa D'en Bossa for the remaining 12 nights.
Sunday
Staying in San Antonio is not in itself a bad thing, there is a lot to do and it is beautiful...
The problem is that it is far from Space, DC 10, Bora Bora, etc...35 Euro cab rides or 2 bus rides to be exact.
That night we went to see Nic Fanciulli followed by Sasha and Zabiela playing back to back at We Love Space. The party opens at 430, we showed up at 6. There are three main areas at Space...The Discoteca (mainroom), The Terraza (terrace, which is actually another indoor room which used to be an outdoor room), and The Sunset Terrace, which is now more or less what The Terraza used to be before laws changed making it necessary to put a roof over it. Now The Sunset Terrace will be busy during the daytime section of the party before closing at midnight at which point the party heads indoors.
One thing I had underestimated was the tiring effect travelling would have. We had specifically changed our flights to get to Ibiza a couple days earlier in order to go to this We Love Space party and to see Sasha, but were so tired we found it hard to enjoy. We had gone to the party early to experience some of the daytime parts of the party and because we wanted to make sure not to miss Sasha. One part of Ibiza I didn’t like was that you never know set times. That meant we were waiting from 6pm-1am for Sasha to come on, and by the time he did we were almost out of gas. We lasted for about half the set but then had to leave.
Tuesday
We decided to stay in Monday night after complications with switching our hotel back to Playa D’en Bossa caused us to be a lot later than we expected, missing the entire daytime section of Circo Loco which was the part we really wanted to go to. Knowing that we could go the next week we decided to stay in and rest for Carl Cox closing party on Tuesday. That was the best decision we could have made because after another good night’s rest we and our hotel finally in the location where it was supposed to be (across the street from the club) we were in a position to show up at a party and be ready to enjoy it.
The Carl Cox closing party did not disappoint. It was the first time I remember thinking “this is what everyone has been talking about”. When we arrived Loco Dice was playing. We caught about 3 of his 4 hours, which was easily the highlight of the night. He was playing quite a bit heavier than I normally associate his sound being, which was right up my alley. Carl Cox’s entrance was quite impressive. His first three tunes were really hard progressive equally as large as the presence he brought with him to the stage. The rest of his set was not as good as Loco Dice but was still fairly good.
On our way out we stopped to see Evil 9 on the terrace who was quite good. It was a mix of breaks and techno which was a nice change from the much heavier stuff we were hearing in the mainroom.
I will keep writing more over the next couple days. |

That day at Space, looking back, was awesome and one of the BEST imo...even tho we couldnt make it to the end.
Altho the original terrace has been covered, the afternoon/evening period was ACE.
I remember thinking and saying a few times that THIS is what i love about Ibiza : wikkid daytime vibes.
Now i wish we woulda done this the next Sunday as well...but there were extenuating circumstances.
Theres something about a daytime/afternoon/evening party that just does it for me..let alone in an atmosphere like Space.
SOOO many ppl just dancin their asses off, smiles all around...can't get any better.
Seeing Sasha and Zabiela together is always a treat for me as I love both DJs.
It must be pointed out that Zabiela's energy was in AWESOME.
Dude was JAMMIM behind the decks and lovin every second of it.
I cant say enuff how much I appreciate a DJ lovin it as much as he was behind the decks...
This is taking into account that my top TOP DJ, Sasha, never really loses it while spinning...
But that night in Budapest (which is the live set that RETARDED) he jammed like i've never seen him before.
What they played that night was pretty much what i expected : full-on techno-prog (or as Sahsa likes to say, "Techyproggytrancybreakytechnoprog" lol
But he really does hit it on the head (is he ever wrong?? heh).
Since i read this comment of his i've realized more and more that THATS exactly what he plays.
Zabiela was along the same line, but more proggy sounding than techy.
That night we didnt feel Fanciulli's set much at all...but i think a major factor in that was his sound was drastically different than
that of in the Sunset Terrace, which is where we were groovin all day.
Add to that, that we were SRSLY lookin forward to Sasha and Zabiela.
So i give Fanciulli a mulligan. No dis, but he was def too techy for us...
He woulda fit in MUCH better at Carl Cox's closing before Loco Dice lets say in terms of sound... |

Eh, i'm not even a fan of techno (but not a hater either i must point out), and Loco Dice was in AWESOME.
Dude was in MASSIVE.
Sure, as expected, approx 25% of his trax i didnt LOVE, but still had me bumpin (pardon the pun :p )...
But the large majority of the tracks were nasty-retarded-bangin-WOW tracks (thats my new compound word).
Loco Dice REALLY REALLY impressed me.
Josh explained Cox perectly...first 3 trax were jaw-dropping, then it was meh...or thats not fair, just not my cup of tea at that point.
Fantastic night no doubt. One for the record books.
Add to that i was WAXED:nervous: |

Sasha and Zabiela. Those two are incredible together. Feed off of each other so well. So fun! That is awesome. Too bad you couldn't get into Nic's set. Bro always brings his game whenever I've seen him.
Nic at a Carl closing party with Loco... :eyes:  Now that would be intense. |
