Valve has just announced the largest update coming for Team Fortress 2 since its release! Maps (yes, plural), achievements, a new "Meet the" video, a new gameplay mode, and the Heavy update are coming next week.
Valve, creators of award-winning games and leading technologies, today announced the unveiling of details for the largest update ever produced for Team Fortress 2, the multiplayer action game that recently topped PC Gamer UK's "Top 100" list.
Beginning today gamers may find details of "The Heavy" Update being disclosed via http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/. The site will reveal new information and screenshots each day, as well as a special installment to the "Meet the Team" series of video shorts.
"The Heavy" update is the largest update to Team Fortress 2 since it was first released as part of The Orange Box last October. In addition to offering new unlockable weapons, achievements, "The Heavy" update also includes a brand new gameplay mode and a number of new maps.
The rollout culminates next Tuesday, August 19 when the update will be made available to all owners of Team Fortress 2.
To give all gamers a chance to check out the new gameplay introduced in "The Heavy" update, Valve will be running a Team Fortress 2 Free Weekend via Steam, a leading online platform for the delivery and management of PC games. The Free Weekend is open to gamers the world over and scheduled to begin Friday, August 22 at 11 am PDT.
The update centers around the Heavy and you can find the update details starting to be revealed at the Heavy update page.
First up is a new community map, cp_steel. |

I've heard some mixed reviews for this update. I appreciate the bug fixes+kritz rate, but overall the Heavy Update really blows.
I still haven't done any farming, but medic has been an absolute blast with 75% heavies around. I kritz at least 3 times per life, although I really find it annoying kritzing something as stupid as the Natasha gun. The sandwich also seems really stupid in place of the shotgun. KGB is neat, though.
Steel is ace, Backwater basin blows, and arena mode is Counter-strike. |

I like the update.
Kirz, who uses that anyway ?
Backwater basin is great, very demanding for the blue team.
I haven't played steel yet
Arena mode , meh... played a few times, its like sudden death with smaller maps |

With all these heavy whores, it's a great time to be a spy on Goldrush. All the heavies tend to cluster around the cart like a herd of buffalo begging to be slaughtered.
I got 6 backstabs in 5 seconds today...lovely. ;) |

The sandvich is diff. from previous achievements as at is not a weapon. It is the first unlockable for the heavy, and basically you scroll to it and use it like anything else. Instead of firing anything, the heavy will sit vulnerable for four seconds and eat the aforementioned sandvich, restoring 120 health.
It's cool cause if your playing defensive, and you have no medic, you don't need to leave your post to go find health. But your vulnerable for four seconds, and he's pretty loud when he's eating it so enemies will try to kill you. |
