I have 4500 bucks to blow out on a new PC, any pointers? (pg. 3)

I built a kick ass q6600 PC with only $1000. It has more than enough power for every music production I've done since. I'd say build it or buy it if you have to and spend the rest on a pair of studio monitors and a synth.

Haha, I didn't mean to start a PC vs Mac thing here, I'm really just talking about who has the support for the best hardware possible, since if your spending 4500 on a machine, you want the OS to be able to access all the hardware you've spent that cash on right:p And CPU and RAM are the best things to have for production.

64bit isn't necessary yet, man. I doubt anyone on this forum actually needs more than 3gb RAM.

Well, I occasionally run out of RAM with 2 gig, so I'd really like 8:D
But thats creating these epic orchestral things I've been doing lately, with like, one channel running akoustik piano (50 gig library I think?) and another three running kontakt instruments worth about 500 Meg each. If you total it all up, it leads to pretty rapid RAM annihilation.
So I've started running stuff with dummy instruments, and substituting the better quality instruments in right before I bounce down.

Allright back with a setup now whaddaya think?

Case: Antec Twelve Hundred
Motherboard: Asus P5Q Premium
CPU: Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Q9550
GPU: Club 3D Radeon™ HD 4870 1 Go
RAM: G.Skill Kit Extreme2 2 x 2 Go PC8500 PK
HDD: Western Digital Raptor 74 Go - 16 Mo and Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 S-ATA - 500 Go - 32 Mo

Having a problem choosing my power supply though, I don't know if anyone makes one that supports both CrossFireX AND ATX...

probably you should wait a few weeks for intel's new cpu architecture. they will announce in 2 days the Intel® Core™ i7 cpus with 8 "cores".

But that isn't going to be available for retail until next year.

I think everyone can tell you what mobo and cpu to buy, graphic and ram you can decide for yourself, but for the rest of the DAW I highly suggest you these items.

i agree... maybe a little more... and there is this gamer board someone on looptalk showed me that takes 2 quad core intel processors... the other thing is... you don't need a phat video card to do audio stuff. and do not i repeat do not put any drive in your computer that is not western digital... they make the most reliable drives hands down.

i'd say buy the computer, a couple really really nice flat panels (you'll have them through a few computers if you take care of them). also grab a cool controller maybe a novation xio or x station.

and use what's left over to buy software or hardware. if you have almost 5 grand to spend on yourself, it'd be a shame to find out that after all that spending you didn't buy komplete or arturia v collection or something.

I know the graphics card isn't gonna help me with audio but I'd like to try manipulating 3D software, video stuff like Adobe Premiere and finally start playing with video on Ableton.

Plus games too:D
