I've lived here for almost three years and have never tipped at a restaurant b/c my husband tells me that you don't tip in Australia, the servers make an hourly salary and it isn't like the US (I am American).
I was talking about this with some co- workers and they all tip at restaurants and they couldn't believe that I don't. My husband firmly says that you don't.
So, do you tip? |

no. Tipping is a reward (not the expectation that it is in the US, system), so if they do a really good job I might. However thats pretty rare (almost never).

so you tip someone for doing their job? The employer pays their wage, not you. If they do a good job maybe, but just if they're not bad? Hell no, thats just stupid. |

What if it is your normal, average meal? Service isn't spectacular, but the food was good, then what do you do? |

| sometimes, but rarely. hospitality workers make decent money in australia, i see no reason why they should expect a tip on top of their wage. |

average meal would usually be over $150 or something like that
if its just pizza or pasta ala lygon st then it all depends, it really all comes down to the waiters i think because they are the ones you are dealing with, if the food is awesome i usually tell the waiter to tell the chef or some like that |

| dont you wish you could make a deduction sometimes, like if the waiter is an absolute cockhead you should discount your meal rather than tip him |
