ableton is a music production software/sequencer that automatically timestretches audio to be the same speed, which some people use as a hybrid dj/performance software.
when performing in ableton these people are are no time beatmatching. they are essentially mixing several songs and pieces of other original material as a new production, remixing on the fly, but not djing at all in the traditional sense and usually not programming (picking the best possible song at that moment) on the fly.
to an extent ableton is blurring the line between a live pa and djing, but quite frankly djing in ableton . . . to me . . . if you aren't doing a significant amount of live remixing and playing your own work, is ing stupid. its not djing at all.
traktor scratch(and serato etc. . .) is a program that allows you to play all of your digital music off your computer, and control it in the same manner you would with cds or records. basically you dj with records, or cds, you just dont have to bring the records or cds with you, instead your entire library is at you fingertips, organized by you, without the hassle of bringing the media you used to have to bring.
so to answer you question . . .
traktor/serto = djing
ableton = something else |

btw most people you probably see using ableton are doing a live p.a. this means that they are taking all the parts of their original productions and playing them as one long performance/live p.a.
this is completely unrelated to djing other peoples music. |
