Quick tech help. My computer (XP pro) is no longer accepting my Interface

SO The last time I worked on anything was a couple of days ago, and recently there was a windows update which I am now ing blaming all of this on.
Anyway, long story short, XP is no longer accepting my Focusrite Sapphire LE as a usable sound device. It sees the drivers, and knows its there, but I can't select it to be used with any program (Including ableton which is pissing me off)
I've already tried re-installing the drivers and its still a no-go, the tech guy at focusrite isn't there right now! So i'm coming to you all.
Quick help would be amazing as this is pretty urgent and annoying.

yeah okay nevermind its a firewire problem.
either my cord sucks, or the port on either my computer or the interface went out.
