need help with the mclass compressor

hey guys i was wondering how to use the mclass compressor. i (think i) already understand how to use a compressor, but i'm still having trouble.

first i have the sound going into a limiter (limiter button turned off)so i can see what level is. this is where i'm running into trouble. on the limiter there are two ways to read the level, peak level (peak) and average level (vu).
which one of these do i want to set my compressor's threshold to?

Whichever you're more familiar working with. If you don't fully understand how it all works try and use the MClass Mastering Suite first (it's a combinator), and just play around with the combi options.

i think peak level is "faster" and stays on peak way to read, it while VU is somekind of RMS measuring, average over a short period maybe. not sure tho. doesnt matter just use your ears and the red light down on the playbar determing clipping.

If you let your threshold lie around the RMS level i guess it will just grab the peaks

on almost all my instruments i use the m-class copmressor first, then the limiter, dont know if it makes sence but i get what i want when doing it.

yeah that is actually what i have been doing. using the max of the vu to set the threshold , then using the peak to set the ratio, seems to work best but the math isn't always coming back correctly when i read it through another limiter (turned off of course)

palm i use the limiter just so i can read what level it is, the limiter button is truned off. then i run it through a compressor then another limiter just to see what the results are. once i get it right i delete both limiters. some times i keep a limiter on after the compressor, but all depends.

anyway thanks guys
