August 30th Paul Oakenfold begins his weekly year long residency @ The Palms. It will be way more than oakie playing as well. He has plenty of headliner talent coming in for this to play along side him.

I might check it out...
To see if the rumors of him "rebounding" are true or not... |

in all honesty, vegas seriously sucks big time in the 'saturday night edm big club' category, so i think paul oakenfolds residency is a good start in the right direction.
on the other hand, i am not sure how well this night will do. i mean, two seriously huge negatives:
1. paul oakenfold is passé. he already had his day. i am not a fan of his and his mixing skills need to be brushed up (but on the other hand, since his track selection is nothing groundbreaking but just fund dance choones, maybe he can cater to the non edm educated listeners to keep the club in going.)
2. rain nightclub is not really a good edm friendly layout. i mean, the weird small dance floor above the water in the middle of the room, is not the best layout for edm clubs imo.
so i am not sure if this night will be a success, but i hope it is. i think vegas needs a steady big edm friday or saturday night. (the one off's on memorial & labor day don’t count because they are usually filled with a non edm doucebag crowd anyways.)
my sugguestion for it to be a successful night, you would have to double bill - meaning Paul Oakenfol AND Sander or something like that...
(im just venting cause i spend at least one weekend a month in vegas and i am soooooo over the boring hip hop booty shakin at tao/pure/et all - i wish ice was back in effect.) |

Oakie couldn't even draw 300 people to a club in Atlantic City 3 years ago...
he will def need to bring his friends if this party is going to be susccesful |

| Hottest club in Vegas...most comercially known EDM DJ in the world....and Giant is backing it, I think it will do just fine. You really think the Rain crowd will notice how good his mixing is? Oakie is a rockstar at the vegas club for rockstars. He's perfect for this. |

i think most people would say Rain hasn't been considered a top tier Vegas club for several years now.
having said that its still packed every weekend i'm told. if they had DJ Mixtape playing the Sat nite of Labor Day weekend i'm sure they would be full. As there is no real EDM competition that Sat nite, it will do fine with Oakie. the special guests actually have some potential IMO. |

He's got the likes of Carl Cox & Paul van Dyk to visit him...
I saw Oakenfold spin at the Queen Mary in June... he ing rocked! But that's just me. |

I think rain is better then most of the big clubs in vegas, its just not one of the newer ones so it doesnt get all the pub anymore. But in its hayday it was this shiz i think.
i went to PURE last time in vegas and it was PURE garbage. Its more like an ultra lounge then a nightclub. And it smelt like sewage. |
