Thinking about your own death (pg. 4)

"CONSCIOUS DEATH

Apart from dreamless sleep, which I mentioned already, there is one other involuntary portal. It opens up briefly at the time of physical death. Even if you have missed all the other opportunities for spiritual realization during your life time, one last portal will open up for you immediately after the body has died.

There are countless accounts by people who had a visual impression of this portal as radiant light and then returned from what is commonly known as a near-death experience. Many of them also spoke of a sense of blissful serenity and deep peace. In the Tibetan Book of the Death, it is described as "the luminous splendor of the colorless light of Emptiness," which it says is "your own true self." This portal opens up only very briefly, and unless you have already encountered the dimension of the Unimanifested in your lifetime, you will likely miss it. Most people carry too much residual resistance, too much fear, too much attachment to sensory experience, too much identification with the manifested world. So they see the portal, turn away in fear, and then lose consciousness. Most of what happens after that is involuntary and automatic. Eventually, there will be another round of birth and death. Their presence wasn't strong enough yet for conscious immortality."

Your life after death will be exactly what it was before you were born.

How do you know that? ;)

Here's the deal.
The thing that's scared of dying and death is your ego.
By nature, the ego wants only one thing, and that's form and material.

Death takes that all away.

Which is precisely why people have these enlightening near-death experiences.

It's at that time that they TRULY realize nothing material in this world matters and are free from all mental bounds.

I'd venture to guess that people who are more controlled by their ego feel the release of it more strongly and thusly have a more emotional/changing near-death experience.

Common sense.

If it is "common sense," why do most people believe otherwise?
pkcRAISTLIN
Think of all the people that have died and been brought back. Asides from the 'white light' they have nothing worthwhile to tell us. My sister was telling me about a recent study that presented an argument for the physiological reasons for the 'white light' too. Something to do with the state of your brain as you go through death. Havent read it myself though...

imo enough people have died and reported to us that there's all after death.

brainwashing? a desperate need to believe? inability to cope with the unfathomable concept of not existing? lack of common sense? the reasons are endless ;)

Perhaps the Good Lord decided that it was not their time and took them back before they could see much?

Hahaha. Yeah, couldn’t have any messages from beyond that might stop us murdering and killing and torturing each other. That just wouldn't be on!

But seriously, I am more than a little surprised that people don't just make up after being brought back to life, starting their own new church and fleecing people with the good word of the lord. Who am I kidding? Someone MUST have done this.

What, floating around in a fluid filled sac inside of another being, waiting to see if your penis has popped out yet?

DMT, which is pretty much the most powerful hallucinogenic drug known to man, actually exists naturally in the brain.

Many people taking DMT report "white light" experiences, and it is therefore theorised that near-death experiences involve a natural release of the drug.

ok ok. before you were conceived mr pedant!!

Deliriants (like atropine or diphenhydramine) are more powerful than DMT or acid or anything else really. Of course, you have a reasonably high chance of dying or being hospitalized from taking them, which is why most people choose not to.

:p

I had heard that ketamine could also induce "near-death" type experiences via NMDA blockade.
