lol, well, if you turn whatever you love into your job, it's not work now is it?

Sure. But if the things you love doing are not very profitable, that is not feasible, is it?

Which is why I will probably be working jobs with low pay.

What do you love to do most?

Me too, Pokit. When I graduated (I was 24) I was like "Damn, all the people that graduated with me from high school are getting their master's, I'm lagging behind". I'm now working on my masters and I'm usually the youngest student around (I wonder where the younger guys are hiding :p), which calms me down a bit. Also, I've had many many good surprises this week.

So, I do feel like I'm entering a whole new chapter in life as well, P-K. And, so far, soooooo good: Once everything works out according to planned, I'm definitely going to start a thanksgiving thread and post pictures of big titty bitches to celebrate! :D

My parents scolded me so harshly as a teen because I wanted to turn a musician (and they thought I wouldn't make much money), that I ended up choosing a career that will give me almost as much money as if I were a musician :D

Music what? Production or performance? Mixing? How about music business; helping others promote and sell their music? You can turn anything into a business, if you believe it in it yourself. If you watch Donny Deutsch on CNBC, you'll soon find out, that you are your own worst enemy when it comes to your prosperity.

Production.

And I am not into promotion or the "business" side of things. :p

What I really should have done is tried to get some advanced degree and then work a steady job with a slightly-above-average income. Instead I chose philosophy as a major and will likely be working at McDonald's -- or something similar.

If you say it is so, it is so. Good luck man ;)

I often get angry at my old self for not being more sensible. But of course I cannot reach back in time and slap him around to set him right.

I've just recently found out that the owner of a really famous restaurant here in Brasilia is a philosophy major. Stephen Colbert (?) is also another famous philosophy major.

Seriously, Brian, I almost wish I was a philosophy major myself (I can more comfortably annoy philosophers as a scientist, so no regrets :D), chin up or I'll go to Texas bitch slap you myself! :D

It's never too late to change your life. I've done a lot of stupid STUPID things. Forget about them. Set a goal for yourself. Where do I want to be in 5-10 years? Then figure out the steps you need to take to accomplish that goal. Don't focus on how hard its going to be or how long it will take. All you need to focus on are the short-term steps necessary to reach the overall goal. If you know what you want, what needs to be done to get what you want, and believe in yourself that you can get what you want no matter what (legally of course), you will make it big, guaranteed.

I'm not talking about small normal changes like dumping a girlfriend or switching jobs, but something that you feel is drastically going to change your every day life. Not nessessarily a positive or negative feeling, just a weird sense.

I've been thinking about this more and more as my first day of university nears (~2 weeks). I've spent the last 5 years (since I've finished high school) jumping from job to job with sporadic periods of unemployment inbetween, doing college courses here and there but never really completing anything and never staying anywhere long enough to form ties with people, taking my first steps into adulthood, learning to manage finances, becoming fully independant. I haven't been involved in any "social environment" since, nor have I been dedicated to doing any one thing consistantly for more than a month or two. Looking back, I can think of three of these relatively long periods of my life that have been significantly different from one another. The feeling of embarking in long-term studies now just weirds me out (but not in a bad way). I get the distinct feeling that years from now I'll be looking back on this as one of those "turning points".

Sorry for the emo thread. :wtf:

LOL. starting university around the time that starcraft 2 is released. good luck! :p
