Probably not. He'll probably be too busy getting drunk again, maybe even beating loved ones. |

He gets drunk at work? And he's an oracle? He really must be the man. |

The timing belt makes sure your engine's valves open and close at the correct rate. The valves are what let air into and out of your engine. Internal combustion engine (what powers your car) works by changing the pressure and heat of a volume of air in a "combustion chamber." The burning fuel in your car turns into gas, and since this gas is hot it tries to expand, but when it tries to expand within the limited space, that creates a lot of pressure. This pressure ultimately translates to energy that's transferred throughout your car in ways that I don't really know enough to talk about.

ok so recently my car was shuddering a lot while idling so i started putting that seafoam engine treatment/gas treatment in my car and it went away. if your air intakes or valves get clogged with guck, that's not timing belt related right? |

My guess would be no.
I know almost nothing about car repair, though, so you should ask someone who works on cars a lot (I almost never do). I just know a little of the basic mechanical ideas behind how cars run.

tell me more about this magical seafoam. my Jetta shudders during idle when i first start it up, but it goes away after a minute or two of giving it gas. |

it's like $7 bucks and u can get it at any autoparts store. it's in a weird white can with i think red writing on it.
u put it in your gas tank when you are on empty and about to fill up. you will notice a change very quickly. since ur jetta isn't brand new, i would recommend using it like every other time u fill up for at least a few months.
my car buff friend swears by it and he really knows his . and yes, i tried calling him too tonight but it goes straight to voicemail:( |
