Audacity is free, it does the job but I hate how budget it looks and feels. I got hold of bias peak and that works nicely, with a good interface and some great options for editing etc.. It's the closest thing I can find to wavelab, which sadly is PC only.

I use audacity with my macbook pro and haven't had any problems at all, however, I haven't used anything else to compare it to. It seems that once you edit your preferences, all it takes is a push of the record button- so I really don't have a problem with the way it looks, per say. Recording quality is good, too.

Pretty sweet considering it's free.

don't forget to close that soft often and reopen it, i never got a soft with that much memory leaks, ~ 1 gb ram used after 10 hours running, and often segfaulting when im trying to close it.

Wow guys, glad there is so much interest in the topic! I was away until today and just caught up.

In respect to the new model and price...guess what, I can't return this babe...I'm hooked! I'll swallow the money I'll lose just to keep this in my possession for the next while until the new one comes out or the price drops! I don't care anymore...haha. Sad to say, but the couple hundred bucks aren't worth it to me...plus, in case you guys didn't know...Apple gives a 200$ rebate for students which I took advantage of with my student here at work. Plus I got a free (mail in rebate) 8gb Ipod touch too!!

So for me everything is setup...Serato is running like a dream...I had to install Boot Camp to run the PCDJ Reflex software that I use to DJ weddings etc...but just found out that the new controller for PCDJ (Denon HC4500) is compatible with Serato...I currently use the DAC3.

Now it's just a matter of getting fast navigating around on zee Mac. I still have yet to play with those features between Itunes and Serato too...need more time!!

Ok...I've got something I'd like some opinion's on.

This pertains to Serato only, but since we've discussed it here, I'll pose the question. Since I use my own folder structure and constantly add files to the folders, I find it extremely time consuming to always have to either delete the folder in Serato and re add it, or re drag and drop the files to the serato folders that have been modified. Is there no other way so that Serato will update files added on it's own?? What do you guys do?

Unfortunately, ScratchLIVE doesn't have "Smart Crates" (self updating crates that are tied to folders on your hard drive). This has been a long standing feature request though.

You can just re-drag the entire folder onto the crate and it will only add the new songs. You don't have to re-drag the individual files.

However, a friend of mine and SratchLIVE guru has written a program, ScratchTools, that can do exactly this, sync crates to folders, as well as a bunch of other cool things ScratchLIVE cannot do (yet) like export crates to text files/Excel (great if you need a text file print out of your set you played last night, or cataloging your entire collection), exporting songs in a crate to another folder, order all your crates alphabetically, etc. ScratchTools is command line based though, no GUI (yet), so if you're timid of command line and code or not that computer savvy/geeky you might have a little trouble. But it's not that complicated we'll help you out on the ST forums if you have trouble. Plus you can write scripts for it so you only have to set it up once, then just run the script whenever you add new files to your folders. So, if you want to check it out... http://scratchtools.de/
