Eee by gum......lol, no longer there mate, I'm a bit of a hybrid cockney scouse lancastrian.....been in London for a few years now.....hehe.....so you know that i'm not an imposter now then.....I've got a mate pete from Blackburn and he's sound, makes me want to slip back into a Cumbrian accent from time to time (when pissed up!)......We had good fun in Liverpool, but when up against the likes of Creme, times were pretty hard! Still, I'd say it to any DJ or producer, forget the UK, I don't even agree with the mixmag top 100, I've heard far better DJs in other countries, especially Poland (Tomie Nevada) and Hong Kong......I used to get hit by Cream and Ministry Of Sound looking for gigs in Hong Kong and I'd always ask them "well, what about hiring DJs from Hong Kong to come over to the UK?" that was always a conversation killer.....even though I'm guilty of the same thing, English DJ, three decks, plenty of gigs elsewhere just because you're English......which is why I like Barcelona now.....Down with the underdogs.....start your own label, get on itunes.....
So.....is my track still bathroom material??? lol......
I'll say this though, if you need tracks reviewing, I can offer my services, I still have contacts through the reviewing......I even got vinyl out of Laurent Garnier's label FCom, which is pretty hard to do so I heard...... |

Well all i can say is that this has been an interesting thread:D
Ive been producing for about 8 months now and as a lancastrian , youll know how strongly our views count(and in liverpool there forced!)
But in all fairness i wish i started production years ago and this site is a perfect place to review productions and get yours reviewed too.
If it wasnt for this site i would still be playing one chord tunes on a casio.
As for your tune lol i still think your techy side is showing more than a trance one.
And ill admit im a hardcore trancer who refuses to belive that trance is changing and love a good hookline lol :)
All my productions are in my sig (the clicky) |

First, about your track. It's not bad produced, not my style, but I def won't see it played in a major trance set, I guess it's to much breakbeat.
Second, you don't make any friends here with a threadtitle like "guarenteed floor filler". It shows a bit of arrogance, not to offend you! |

| Cool, thanks for the prod comment, I guess you're right, maybe the breaks detract from the main track, was just how I saw Hong Kong at the time, give the atmosphere of the track a bit of an edge......a bit of experimentation, that's how we've ended up with new genres, like goa, psy, progressive etc, what's your thoughts on those? what do you think? |

Well, it's really just a matter of taste. If you're really into what you are producing, you have to do that. If you're aiming at this track being played by the mainstream trance (with this I mean uplifting trance), your track doesn't quite fit in.
While I'm really into uplifting/progressive and house, I don't know how this track would work in country's that play more goa/minimal stuff.
But I really think this isn't a bad track, I like the experimental part and it does stand apart from mainstream trance.
Keep it up. |

| Thanks V much, coming from a techno background, it's hard to put down your influences! I'll have a go at remixing it into something more fitting (if i can find the original files) and then post the results, would be good to get some pointers from everybody..... |

I gotta say, ive seen many threads like this unfortunately. Starts off with someone coming accross arogant, and then an equally arrogant reply and the loop goes on and on.
Well, I shall try and not get involved with the little battle that is going on here, and give my actual opinion on the track.
The start - it gets a little too boring for my liking for the first 1 minute, its not bad but I dunno, could just do with something a little else, maybe try modulating the filter on the main sound you are using to give it a little more movement or something, maybe even just add the odd stab sound or something, just to give it a little more groove.
Also, your other sound you got there that has quite a long attack on it, maybe have some sort of delay on it or something so that when you change key, you have the delay of the prvious key fading out on the delay.
I actually quite like the breakbeat, kind of showing my age but takes me back to circa 91/92.
I also quite the little vocal "ohahh" sounds quite nice.
However, I do think the intro as a whole (upto 4.17) needs a bit of rearrangement (mainly some removing) as it just goes on too long for me.
I also thing the breakdown is a little bit too long.
I think with some rearrangement it could be a good track, I think you could get the whole track down to about 6.30 rather than the 8.49 it is at the moment.
All the best! |

Now that's the kind of reply I was looking for, the good and the bad in the track...don't worry, the battle is not going on and on....we've had our fun and i've duly apologised...I'll take note of all you've offered and work it into the track, someone elses ears always help out, especially when you've heard your own track a thousand times...
Cheers JimBob, thanks for listening...i'll stick something up when i have something... |

Yes, I know exactly what you mean mate. The longer I spend on the track and therefore the more I hear it, the less fresh ideas I get and loose inspiration / innovation.
When someone hears it with fresh ears, they sometimes pick up on things you never even spotted because youve been focused on other areas.
A fresh pair of ears and an honest opinion always helps I think. |
