A couple Serato questions...

I'm new to SSL but certainly not to DJing. I'm trying to figure out two things that seem contrary to what i read in the user guide:
1. Serato is not detecting the tempo of my tracks, essentially rendering the loop feature useless (unless i tap the tempo). How do I have SSL analyze my files? For the most part, all of my tracks are 320 kbps mp3's from Beatport, DJ Download, Audiojelly, etc.
2. The help file says that I can use the number keys to jump to cue points. i.e., 1-5 jump to cue points 1-5 on the left deck and 6-0 jump to 1-5 on the right deck. However, when I press the number keys, the only thing that happens is that the track that is highlighted in my current crate changes. Any ideas?
For the record, I am using an intel-based macbook running OS X.

for question #1,
with your USB cable unplugged from your computer, drag the track you want into Serato and make sure the "set auto bpm" box to the right of "build overviews" is selected before you actually "build overview". With that box checked, Serato should be able to detect tempo, although like a lot of bpm readers, occasionally you'll get a bogus return like 70 bpm on a 130 bpm track. About 80% accurate, though, I'd say. |

Awesome! Thanks, Sukhoi29SU! I hadn't unplugged the scratch box since I got it. That's pretty smart of them to only analyze files when you're not mixing live. |

I figured out #2. I had to turn off the "playback keys use shift" option. Go me.

How has the BPM analyzer been working out for you in SSL?
I haven't done that yet since I have to manually select the range and I prefer to have SSL build the overviews and detect the BPM all in one shot (since all of my files are in one directory). I guess now I have to manually categorize my music into genres, and then BPM detect? |
