...And justice for all

It's decent enough to pique my interest in actually checking the album out and giving it a fair chance.

+1 to "average but much better than St. Anger". God what a bag-full of fecal-flavored ass-wind that album was.

So, meh, we'll see.

If Lars' snare drum sounds nothing like it did in St. Anger's entirety, it will be at least a 200% improvement.

THWOOONG!
Mmanu
Thanks you for reminding me of that dreadful endless snare drum with echo settings on maximum wet. It's actually all you hear in the album because the mixdown is ing horrendous as well. Hi bob rock, you deaf twat.

Metallica died with cliff Burton. They had a bit of Burton's material when they did justice, it all went down since. Now, they embraced the very system that they used to despise in their songs. They should have stopped in 1989, and start a new band called Banjoholica or something.

This thread is filling me with the need to pawnshop my copy of st anger, it has the garage rehearsal DvD in it, I might be able to get 50 pence more with that. Aaaaand, I will gain one CD rackspace, booonus.

look, there's no denying that their earlier stuff is the best.

the problem for you is that most of "burton's material" was written by james and lars.

anyone that doesn't see merit in some of the stuff on metallica/load/S&M is normally a chav/bogan/white trash.

james showed on load that he could actually sing. james' vocals in the early albums quite frankly, were . some of their worst songs, were on lightning (fight fire with fire) or puppets (damage inc). asides from the beginning of damage inc, which is awesome.

i never saw the rule that said you had to do the same all the time or be considered a sell-out. what more was there left to do that metallica hadnt done by the time they'd released justice?

having said that, reload and st anger are particularly bad. i stopped listening to metal entirely after st anger. but i think its crazy to expect a band to be able to reproduce their finest hour every time they record.

and in the pieces of music where S&M works, its ing ace.

I saw a lot of Lars saying, "oh we're going back to the roots". He said that for load, reload, st anger. At least he spared us with how long he spent tweaking his drum kit to get the ultimate snare sound ( once again ey:rolleyes: )

I see sell your soul to the system you used to fight in lyrics / become cheesy enough to successfully qualify for being featured in the MI 2 soundtrack / make more money by rearranging existing material for classical music lovers. Then it was AA time, way overdue.. No pun intended, just really not my cup of tea. They were on top of the trash / speed metal scene, topped it off with justice, now they end up doing the unforgiven 3, loooool.

honestly though, who has the same opinions when they're 50 that they had when they were 17?

i think artists are cursed in that we see their ideology evolve just like anyone else. to be honest i couldn't give a about their politics or their 'agenda'. plus, james is a ing redneck from wayback. i certainly wouldn't credit him with singing anything that hadn't been covered a million times before.

edit: oh yeah, and their lyrics were pretty ing average early on! talk about rudimentary.

yeah, you won't get an argument from me here. but hey, that's why i dont listen to them anymore i guess!

Mmanu
indeed, nothing to argue there... Metallica is a totally different entity now, it will suit other people. I know of a girl who's into them right now, and kirk hammett's a god/he's so gorgeous, etc and all that usual fangirl crap.

On a personal level, I was so glad to discover Pantera when the black album got out. The old metallica days are dead, I got over it real well since at the end of the day, there are quite a few other metal bands worth checking out.

:edit: 1st time I have a "normal" chat with you around here, no flames and all that. Feels weird man.
