Berlin Calling Toronto! Dance Music gets screened Berlin style

Electronic Music Movie "Berlin Calling" to be screened exclusively at
the Royal Cinema on Sunday Sept 7th featuring German Dj/producer Paul Kalkbrenner

Toronto, August 28, 2008: This season dance music will
be featured in a film that brings the reality of life as an
international touring artist to the screen. The subtitled German film
"Berlin Calling" (105 minutes) directed by Hannes Stohr will be given
a limited screening at the Royal Cinema downtown Toronto. What's
different about this film, is that the lead actor Paul Kalkbrenner is
an actual producer and electronic music artist on one of Germany's
renowned record labels, Bpitch Control (www.bpitchcontrol.com).
Although the movie is a fictional piece, the life portrayed in the
film is one that lead actor Paul has some experience with.

"We did the script together, for sure he (director Hannes Stohr)
has a big overview to create the story, which I cannot do, so I was
more of a consultant of details. We were brainstorming for two years
on the script, he developed the role a little in my direction, I also
moved a little bit to this Ikarus guy because this stuff with
sunglasses in the club I never did before. One day he said I trust
you, and you will act this. Then I was like, 'hey should I read
something about acting, or take some leasons' He was like 'No, you do
as you do your music, you just are by yourself... You do just you'" -
Paul Kalkbrenner - Locarno Film Festival Italy

The perfect venue, Toronto's Royal theatre has been selected for the
screening of Berlin Calling. During the week, The Royal operates as
the post-production facility for Theatre D Digital
(http://www.theatred.com/) to mix surround sound audio in professional
Dolby audio. As such the venue will be most suitable for Berlin
Calling because it features a professionally mixed soundtrack in 5.1
surround sound produced almost entirely by Paul Kalkbrenner.

What makes this screening event really special is that Paul, who will
be in attendance for Toronto's premiere of Berlin Calling, will also
be DJing at an after-party at the Drake Hotel Underground. The event
hosted by PLATFORM and Xanuradio.com will be going late featuring
several local and international artists including Paul Kalkbrenner,
Jamie Kidd, Greg Gow, Nitin and Felix & Gani. Further details with the
screening times and event location to be released next week.

Press and media passes can be obtained for both events by visiting
this address and filling out the RSVP form:

"Berlin Calling" Synopsis

Berlin underground composer and electro DJ Martin (known under the
pseudonym of DJ Ickarus) is on tour with his manager and girlfriend
Mathilde. The two of them spend their nights in clubs, and are
preparing to release a major electronic music album. However Mathilde
finds it increasingly difficult to deal with Martin's drug addiction
and the album release is compromised when the DJ, following an
overdose, is held in a psychiatric ward. While Martin gets to know the
other patients and starts to write music again, Mathilde falls into
the arms of her former lover, Corinna, and the album release remains
on hold. With the internationally known hit DJ Paul Kalkbrenner in the
lead role (who also composed the film's score), Berlin Calling depicts
the nocturnal world of the electro scene at 100,000 beats per minute.
