I would like it if people that have nothing to do with and event didn't start event listings for it. leave that to the club/promoters lol

I really don't think it matters. I rather know asap (especially now that school is in - helps for planning) than wait for a promoter to get to it. Promoters can still post and the details, and people who start the event thread will update the first post with the flyer and info.

Not really... each week there seems to be more and more guestlists available.. there has to be at least 4 or 5 for an average FW night. So even if one promoter starts the thread, all the others will still post their guestlists...

I really don't see a difference except we may know about an event a couple weeks earlier.

+1
totally agree
as long as the poster updates the first post will all relevant details, I think it's irrelevent who the poster is - promoter or just your average TA

Guestlist info can be sent to the original poster via PM to add to the top of the thread. I've been asked to do this before

how much time do you need to plan if you are going out on a Friday or Saturday....I would think a month to a month and a half is more then enough time.

Once school starts I have to plan partying into my life.
I work and go to school so my weekends arent exactly free.
Plus I love to procrastinate...

So it helps knowing a month or more in advance that there is a party I want to go to, it allows me to make sure I can keep that weekend free.

.... I am going to miss summer :(

Yea but only the original poster has access to see all the names added to the list -- the person who PMed will get the email notifications and still have to add it/cut+paste them manually

Or you could just check the tour schedule of the artist(s) you really want to see, which typically go several months ahead.

I can't see this working. Half the time events are posted with names spelled wrong, incorrect dates, incomplete information, and so on. It would cause more problems than it would solve.

Sounds like the kind of idea one of our account execs would dream up. Great idea in theory when you don't concern yourself with details - in reality, totally unsuited to the technology, environment, and culture.

even if you just had a drop down menu (like TAs top DJs of the year) when people post events?

pretty simple stuff.

but it doesn't matter, nobody likes this idea but me.

First of all, nobody wants to pick from a list of 10,000 DJs.

Second, what happens if there's more than one DJ?

Third, what if it's a local party or a DJ that isn't on the list?

Is this going to be an "optional" dropdown? If it is, what's the assurance that any promoter would bother using it as opposed to just typing the thread title?

It's never simple. Again, it's a good idea, but I don't think that a forum is the appropriate medium on which to implement it.
