I was just looking at this and well I only really know much about goa/psy so I thought what tracks he put under each.

:wtf: Ok, apart from the fact the goa and psy are most def different genres and its fairly easy to tell them apart after some listening theres a little button on there called buttrock goa. :wtf: Since when is infected mushroom-none of this is real heavy metal influenced? Ok, so it has electric guitar in it, but it isn't heavy metal influenced retard. May as well put in blue muppet as well. S.U.N. Project fair enough though.

Also: Pleadians-Jungle traxx is most def goa not psy at all. Also the delta-travelling at the speed of thought is used as an example of psy despite the fact theres a psy tech button nearby and it is clearly psy tekk.

As much as he's written tons, a lot of it is crap and its scarey to see that when I know a lot about a genre theres so much he's written thats wrong about it.

People stopped taking Ishkur seriously few years ago. I suggest you do the same.

You should never take him seriously. In fact, stay the hell away.

What makes it so much more surprising than anyone else on here calling something minimal techno when it's played by Sasha? The only difference is that Ishkur has a website and writes more eloquently.

... and the fact he's taking the piss with many of the things he says.

wait, so there's not actually a real genre out there called 'Stupid house'?

No, there is. It just more frequently gets called 'fart house' around here. ;)

I took a Logic Pro class last year and the teacher said, "To learn more about electronic music you can go to this site called Ishkur's guide to electronic music." I laughed my ass off so hard then felt embarrassed because no one else laughed. Not only was the teacher annoying for playing only 10 minutes of psy-trance samples, but I found it annoying that he used a very biased (although extremely entertaining) source for electronic dance music. Ishkur's guide to electronic music is as useful as watching the Today Show for the news: you'll understand what's going on but will also have a clear understanding that a huge chunk of it is being made fun of.

LOL where have you been? I heard the name buttrock goa floating around 10 years ago in Seattle. As much as other some genres are just Ish's way of making fun of (usually) crappy music, buttrock goa is a solid sub-sub-genre.

Yes there is. It's usually produced by homosexuals and sung by washed-over 80s pop-stars trying to resurface after they've depleted their income from 20 years ago.

Still, its better than nothing.

but , its hardly a definite guide. Wiki is FARRR more subjective.

I think it's a great guide for people new to electronic music; it shows them just how much diversity there is, with clearly laid out samples and timeline progression. I learnt a bit from the guide when I first found it.

I think most of the samples are reasonably accuarate, though there are a few that could be changed.

However, once you've been around a while, it's probably easier just to make up your own mind on where things fit into the spectrum of genres.

Even two people with 40 years of electronic experience between them can disgaree on which genre a track fits into, so it's not unexpected that a lot of people might disagree with Ishkur's chosen samples.

Regarding your comments about "just because it has a guitar doesn't mean it's metal influenced", considering that a majority of the samples he has posted for buttrock goa employ so called "power chords", a notable feature of heavy metal, I'd say what Ishkur has written is pretty fair. You're just splitting hairs and being a goa elitist as usual.

I was just looking at "industrial", and there's a comment about Genesis P'Orridge forming the acid house movement.

I thought Phuture/Ron Hardy were largely held responsible for that?

This explains it some: http://rho-xs.blogspot.com/2007/11/into-bpm-05.html

I couldn't find the direct source but am recalling from memory that someone busted him with the whole acid house thing.
