Dubai Carbon Neutral Pyramid will House 1 Million

Dubai-based environmental design firm Timelinks recently released some eye-catching renderings of the gigantic eco pyramid - aptly named Ziggurat - with plans for its official unveiling scheduled for the Cityscape Dubai event which runs October 6-9 of this year. The ginormous pyramid will cover 2.3 square kilometers and will be able to sustain a “community” of up to 1 million.
Timelinks claims that their Ziggurat will be capable of running completely off the grid by utilizing steam, wind, and other natural resources. The tightly knit city will also feature a super efficient public transportation system that runs both horizontally and vertically, and plans are being drawn up to utilize both public and private green spaces for agricultural opportunities.
According to the International Institute for the Urban Environment, the technologies incorporated into the Ziggurat project will make it a viable metropolis, and Timlinks has responded by quickly patenting the design and technology developed for the project. A number of European professors will be on hand at CityScape Dubai to explain how the Ziggurat project can be incorporated into grander plans, meaning that it may not be a one-off structure

Now this is just awesome,looks like humanity might be heading towards the right direction after all(environmentally speaking).

| Great in a sense but 1 million in less than 2.5 square kms? Are they out of their ing minds? That sounds like hell. |

I thought about that too and how will they achieve this is beyond me but I just love these new ideas and makes me feel better knowing there are people out there who are trying new things for a better future. |

Actually if you calculate the approximate volume of the pyramid and divide by a number of people, you get some 750 cubic meters per person. Say that the average roof height needs not be higher than 3 meters, that's 250 square meters. Now, take an average family of four, it's 1000m2 per such a family. You can take some 800 out of it for business, agricultural, and public areas, and you still get more than decent 200m2 flats plus a more or less self sufficient building.
Seems fairly accomplishable, but will probably cost like hell. Anyway, cool stuff nevertheless! |

Yea I get that, but that is still essentially 1 million people in a tiny area. Crazy. |

you would like the urban farming initiatives by columbia university. it would be ideal for a desert nation like UAE. The pyramid idea is a little too fanciful, but it would probably provide greater efficiencies in energy consumption and water use so I'm all for it.

I ve known about this vertical farming idea for awhile,but sadly enough it is barely getting any attention out there.The idea is fantastic if you think about it you have everything you need to grow deep inside the city,you ll save a load on the cost of transportation aka saving alot on gas.I cant wait to see this idea turned into reality. |
