Dunno but my guess is they use it to be able to play two records at the same time so they can remix live, add effects to the mix and stuff like that. |

Have you heard the Politics Of Dancing?
Anyway PvD is mixing with 3 decks, maybe even 4 I'm not sure though.
Anyway in CD 1, fourth track is Vega [Starcase Remix], mixed with Filmpalast - I Want.
both together all the way, track 5 is Southern Comferter - Another Late Thursday, being mixed with Vega and I Want for about half time, I Want fades out and that leaves us with track 6 - Iio - Rapture, which is the PvD rework which is really, Vega, Southern Comforter and Rapture put together.
When you will listen you will learn to appriciate how massive 3 deck mixing is :) |

Yup Politics of Dancing is Protoolsed (mixed in multitrack proggy).
3 deck mixing can be done in several ways. Some people use the 3d deck for effects, acapella's, overlaying beats (on sampler discs), etc...
But the best (and hardest) part of 3 (or more) deck mixing is to have CONTINUOUSLY at least 2 tunes in the mix. It creates a huge amount of energy and it's pretty difficult to do (don't start with it until your beatmixing is ROCK solid), but it's very rewarding. If you want a good example of such mixing, just listen to sets of Derrick May, or even better Adam Beyer.
Agreed it's more suited for minimal music (techno mainly), because if used on trance or house, it can make the mix sound way too overcrowded.
I used to use 3 or more decks (had 3 sl's at home), but I had to sell my 3d techie. I still use multi deck mixing with my cd's, but as soon as my other expenses will be done, I'm off to buy a 3d deck again!!! |
