Can iTunes read cue sheets?

I've burnt a CD using a cue sheet and although my CDJs and car stereo picks up the track names, iTunes doesn't. When it imports the CD, it just lists the tracks as Track 01 - Track 12

Is there any way I can get iTunes to recognise the track names?

Yeah that was my last resort. I'm really surprised that iTunes cant do this since any CD-TEXT enabled CD player can display the track names.

It shouldn't have anything to do with the cue sheet, all a cue sheet does is tells the burning software where to put trackmarks and what CD text to put on.

So I conclude that iTunes is pony.

The only thing I can think is that maybe you used the cue sheet to specify certain CD text fields, but iTunes is reading other ones... say if you specified Performer and Title for each track, but iTunes tries to read the disc Performer... something along those lines, I don't know what all of the different possible fields are tbh.

This is what I was thinking - the cue sheet is fine as I have burnt a CD with it and it shows up all information on my CD-TEXT based CD players but iTunes just doesn't show up the information.

I've searched around and cant find anything related to this problem which seems strange considering that thousands of people use cue sheets and iTunes being one of most popular mp3 software players.

Have you tried just getting iTunes to read the CD-TEXT from a commercially produced CD?

No as it automatically connects to the online CDDB database and downloads all information from there. And I think that if there is no internet connection, it will just throw up a connection error message.

Do you know of a way of forcing iTunes to look for CD-TEXT information?

I know when I didnt have internet connection and inserted commercial cd into itunes, it DIDN'T read the names. Though to be honest, I don't know if the cds were named anyway :conf:

That's because about 99% of commercial CDs dont have any CD-TEXT embedded into them which is a big shame since all CD players now support CD-TEXT.

I've only got two CDs that I know of which have CD-TEXT and both are fairly underground albums on small labels. Laziness is the only explanation I can think of.

I would disconnect the internet then, and see if Itunes can read those cds. If you've already added the cd, remove it and add again. If itunes doesn't recognise them then you can assume that its Itunes at fault and not anything you've done.

I haven't encountered a single program that reads the track names off a CD recorded using a cue sheet. It does, however connect to CDDB, and if the cue sheet is accurate, it will get the correct track names as some have stated above.
