I Shall Be Telling This With A Sigh
Somewhere Ages And Ages Hence:
Two Roads Diverged In A Wood, And I
I Took The One Less Traveled By,
And That Has Made All The Difference.

i want that to make it onto a new villalobos track, with pitched down vocals, and trumpets playing all over the ing place

Insightful thoughts? No, we wouldn't want anything like that from our experience of music.

I want insightful thoughts, but I don't want it spelled out to me.

Lyrics usually either a. don't matter
or b. tell me what to think

Both are stupid. The only songs where I've liked lyrics, was more about the melody/inflection/timbre of the voice rather then what they're saying anyway.

That said, I do quite like:

Hi,

Trance can be some of the most powerful music when done well. Unfortunately, I think most trance lyrics are so redundant, simplistic, and basically dumb. Most so-called vocal trance involves some inane pop chorus of "Please come back to love me more..." or "Can't you see my tears..." "Take my hand..." Is this because of growing commercialization and marketing imperatives, like selling to a global audience and market where a standardized product can appeal to larger audiences? Is it that trance audiences just want escapist fluff, cotton candy for their brains, "politics wrecks my buzz..."? To what extent are influential DJs to be held responsible as they ply their global trade with their increasingly standardized products that can be played anywhere regardless of local politics, dictatorship or democracy?

Can you suggest any trance that moves beyond rather limited life experience of troubled relationships and deals with the larger world in which we live? I don't mean New Age navel gazing trash replete with samples stolen from Indigenous peoples to give it from stereotypical exotic feeling but stuff along the lines of Leftfield with some social commentary? Dancing and thinking are mutually exclusive, there is lots of life beyond vacillating between longing of the loins to screwed up relationships!

Cheers,
Blotto

The best lyrics i heard was a girl whisteling and hun hun haan haan.. it was in a fashion show i attended for fun and was never able to trace back that track...

Why dont you listen to Enrique Igleas if you want deep lyrics.. like 'i am hero, i will die for you..'

Perhaps you missed my first post on the subject.

like realistic abstract art or maximal minimalism.

I'd like to add that although it doesn't make sense. Minimal as a genre/subgenre has its own perculiarities and the way it builds, apart from actually having less elements. Take virtual voyage by infected mushroom for example. Usual number of elements, but very minimal influenced.

Haha, I actually think that "sound of goodbye" is somewhat nice lyrically. But I think underworld has a monopoly on the coolest lyrics ever... In my opinion they are very good writers, they paint a picture of a time and a place with words.
But I'm waiting for someone to say that their stuff is just trash. Its because lyrics are pretty personal, so one man's trash will be another mans treasure...
I think Miracle is Oceanlabs worst song, so to me, thats an argument against putting gobal warming in songs ever again:rolleyes: But Adele's hometown glory has a slight political bent and the Shinobe one remix kicks pretty hard, so maybe its possible...

Well, commercial pop artists have teams of writers preparing their "intelligent" content.

EDM producers are not in a position to get the same kind of help, collaborating with a vocalist usually means sending them the instrumental of the track and asking the vocalist to improv something over the top.

Then factor in that the vocalists collaborating with EDM producers are usually bog-standard wailers, who couldnt put together their own pop/solo careers, and there is your problem, for why their song writing is e.

Hmmm, I disagree, most pop writing is as bad (or worse) than trance. Its just that theres only a few really great writers, I think dance music DOES have its fair share to be honest. Although the issue of it being a very european based genre, and all the words still being in english, is still worth looking at...

These lyrics bring a tear to my eye.

Thanks for proving the OP's point;)
