what's the deal with venezuela? i'm still not sure why the US is on the bad terms with the country. hugo chavez is left leaning and he did nationalize oil drilling operations but what else? or has he been just not liked by the W administration over the last few years? seeing as Venezuela is in the US' "sphere of influence" and they have some of that heavy heavy crude, i've been at odds with the deteriorating relationship, especially since it allows other countries a la china to exert their influence. in a time of peace, this doesn't matter because everyone pays the same price for oil and you get it from anywhere in the world that has it. in a time of conflict, this would become more important, especially if the world market system faltered, and countries began selectively exporting crude. it would seem the US is missing out on a potential key relationship
sort of a dark outlook on the future, but this is planet earth and real politik runs this |

| Do a search in this forum for Hugo Chavez and Venezuela for more information. He's a -turd and has nationalized far more than just the oil industry. |

| Well generally when someone steals billions of dollars worth of your property, you're not gonna want to be friends with them. That's basically what Chavez did...confiscated property and said F-U to the owners who were U.S. citizens, shareholders, taxpayers, and of course...donors to GW Bush. |

Who cares? Let Venezuela run itself, why do we always have to tell other countries how to run their government? Chavez has every right to be paranoid of Washington imperialists. Hell, if they lie to invade a weak defenseless country, they'de probably do it again...as they are with Iran. Thank god for term limits. But it is no different with Chavez. Washington wanted him gone...

I am a believer in the respect for national sovereignty and self-determination. The Venezuelan people voted for Chavez. You, the American government, and all other governments should respect that. Sorry if I sound condescending.. |

Who are we to tell other nations about those issues? The US isnt exactly the best role model here either. Therefore they have no rights to tell other nations how they should or shouldnt run their country, but hey after all they do have oil so lets pretend we care about the people.:o |
