Jay beat me as I typed this up and tried to make it coherent :D
got there @ about 11:30 to see no lineup and a very sparse crowd, but it suddenly filled up within the hour.
opening DJ (?) was good, but a bit hard for the beginning of the night. TK went on sometime after midnight (I think?) I love TK. She's a talented, highly underrated DJ and a super friendly person...class act all the way. Although I have to say that, while I enjoyed the tracks she played, her set was a bit all over the place and not what quite I expected to hear before Honey Dijon. It actually would have fit well as a closing set as Honey was really bangin' it out harder when I left shortly after 4am.
Honey was fantastic. I will make an effort to hear her spin whenever she's in the city. solid house, rather than this tech poop that is permeating the city these days :P
one highlight...Human League - Don't You Want Me. sick. I have memories of that from my childhood, lol! I am pretty terrible with track names, but she also played Robin S - Show Me Love (which I first heard in a club when Angello & Ingrosso dropped @ Guv earlier this year, which had the crowd go nuts).
She also played a hard rework of CJ Bolland - Sugar is Sweeter. Anyone know the mix? , it has been YEARS since I've heard that. massive Electric Circus flashback, haha...and I remember Honey being on there waaaaayyy back in the day too! :P
Good set, with several of us front and centre for much of it. Then she started playing some harder stuff and I took a breather, but left around 4am leave due to some drama with a friend who called me.
arrived with Jay, Dan and Andrew...a pleasure, guys! Always an honour to share the dancefloor with Margaret & RJ....Nick, Aaron, Daniel...sorry,I'm forgetting a few :\
Good night that renewed my faith in Footwork after the Kaskade lineup fiasco last year. It's great venue, especially for certain DJs and genres. Top notch bar staff and a very good crowd. Hands down my favourite venue in the city.
hooray for trashed reviews. time to blaze and chill with some tunes

We went for a bit, such greatness. Human League - Don't You Want Me, oh man. . This was the first time I've seen Honey Dijon so it was such a treat for sure. |

This had to be a bit of an early night for me, but it turned out to be damn good tunes, so I'm glad I went. Good atmosphere too, aside from the cracker jack who couldn't stop bashing into me every 3 seconds.
I'll "most likely" ( :p ) see her again next time she's in town.

Oh man. That was so much fun. That's the kind of stuff I like to listen to. At times it was a bit loud so thank god for the ear plugs. |

The vibe last night was electric, there are only a handful of DJ's that can polarize Footwork like that and she's one of them... (Green Velvet and Danny Howells being two others! )

Are genres that subjective!? I'd define 90% of her set to be tech house... |

Forsure TK rocked it. And Honey always delivers. One of those nights you can party sober and still have a wikkid time and dance your ass off.
And Footwork is an amazing venue. Always one of the most raw and authentic vibes, which keeps the DJ's they book true to thier own sound. (and yah, wacko bumping into me all night too. I told him he needs to make a smaller bubble for himself and keep in it so he doesnt bust everyone elses)...
Honey said in her thank you speach "No ones parties like Toronto" and that she always get nervous playing here because she wants to impress us. & I loved hearing Deadmau5 drop. Makes me proud to be in the Toronto scene. |

really? I wouldn't...maybe the later stages of her set? then agian, maybe that's just by my own definition of 'tech house'.
for me, much of her set had more of a modernized, classic house feel to it. a 'cleaner' sound, if that makes sense?
Regardless of the genre labelling, I found it very different than what many play here (and 10x better, IMHO).
agreed 100% on the vibe though...electric, indeed. Kaskade pulled it off his first time there and Howells was very good too...still haven't caught Green Velvet there though. |
