Opinion on Vista and production (pg. 2)

I just ordered a laptop, and which ofcourse comes with Vista, probably installed.

The first thing im going to do is to wipe it out and put in XP right away.

The only advantage with Vista as i see it, is that with 64 bit version you can use more than 4 GB of RAM.

With my new music pc I just built not long has 64 bit vista with 8GB of ram and only issue I had was trying to get M-Audio Midisport 4x4 and M-Audio Delta 1010LT to work 100% but that was easy fix just had to monkey with few settings. I have a vista and xp laptops and will still stick with xp on the laptop for now. Yeah vista is a memory hog but if you know what services and stuff to shut down it will reduce the hog some.

Maybe someday it will be Vista but for now I will only use Vista x64 for gaming to take advantage of DX10 and 64 bit versions of games that we are seeing more and more.

okay so aero is in now way possible to turn off? ;)
and more than 4 gig ram isn't interesting I suppose?
and the mere fact that most of the sequencers are comming in 64-bit versions aint interesting either I suppose? ;)

To turn off Aero is easy. Just open your Control panel folder and all first. In that folder go to personalization icon and click it. Once you in that section you see stuff like windows color and appearance, Desktop Background etc.. Form there click first one Windows color and appearance then in section you see A pull down list . In the Color scheme list, select another color scheme, and then click OK and should disable Aero and reduce some of memory memory it hogs. If Aero turned off you could see up to 5% memory gain if lucky.

Vista is fine if you have a quad core monster with 4-8 gig of RAM, and are prepared to deal with the driver and compatability problems that come with X64. Otherwise, XP still wins.

For me it worked right out of the box the M-Audio Delta 1010LT after I turned of onboard audio and had no driver issue with vista 64bit.

I have not had ONE single driver problem with vista x64. That's an early myth that's dead since long...well as long as you don't have an M-audio soundcard that is ;) (why I love RME)

The problem with myths like that is that people will say it once and it will spread like wildfire because others will simply treat it as fact.

Vista is awesome, i never had any problems with it in conjunction to music production.

I have had ZERO issues using Vista to produce. I just had to wait for M-Audio to release drivers for the 2496.

can you activate the same plug-ins with vista same as with XP? cos im running Live 7 with lots of plugs which i think are 32 bits? like those mda plugs? anyone knows something about that?

Vizay
vista 64 is fully capable of running 32-bit plugins, niemas problemas.

I've had zero problems when it comes to production with my vista x64 setup.

Running a c2duo e6600, 2 gig ram, 8800gt gfx, RME fireface 400 cubase 4 and reason 4.

but then again, non-pirated software tends to cause less problems ;)

yeah well i tend to use only bought stuff and freewares, so just about the freewares i'm concerned, and will i benefit from moving to vista? is there any improvement in performance?
