Ok check this out, I tried to connect to Xbox live with my old modem and I failed. My MTU failed so i did some research and i found out I needed a min number to connect to Live. I decided to order a new modem because mine was older than my son....4.5 ...lol. After much procrastination, I ordered a new modem from my provider, AT&T. Ive been trying to connect all night long and its driving me nuts. I checked my MTU setting and they're at 1492 well above the min requirements. Question, do I need a router? Im hooking up directly to a new modem to the xbox. Is it a firewall settings? Trust me Ive gone thru like 20 different forums reading and trying all of the tips, idk wtf to do!!!!

Do I need to enter my IP and DNS info manually?

I want to get online and kick ass already

IT sounds like you might need to open up some ports (I had a similar problem with mine although I'm connecting through a router which lets me open up the specific ports needed for gaming)

When you are connecting everything directly, are you resetting the modem (turning it off and on ) then also resetting you XBox? They dont tell you that, but everytime you make a change on your modem, you also have to reboot the XBox

You might wanna call XBox to get a list of those ports that need to be opened (1 800 4MY XBOX)

you'll need to open ports...i went through same trouble on my router...not sure what you'll need to do when connected directly to modem, but i'm sure its somethin similar
