A guy I know from the office has one of the Pioneers and I tried to plug in my iPod via the USB port on the front and it does not work, it only charges the iPod. If you want to listen to it you have to plug it in the front AUX input to the iPod's headphone jack. Don't know if all of the new Pioneer head units are like this though. Apparently the USB port only works for stick drives.
The new Alpine units do have this connectivity and are awesome. You can even see your iPod's "Now Playing" screen on the unit's display. But like you said are expensive as ($600+) and limit you to just iPod. |

My buddy had one of the first gen ones and it worked flawlessly. Must not have had it setup properly. |

This version of Pioneer has direct control of the iPod and has built in Bluetooth (though its a double din)
It's also on sale at newegg for $259 I think I'm gonna order it since my car has the larger factory deck.
This is the FH-8000BT. The FH-7000BT is the standard size deck (pretty sure) |

| don't even bother with the cigarette lighter adapters, as the sound quality is terrible. pony up and purchase a new head unit that has a built in aux outlet. the sound quality is amazing on my pioneer premiere. it's well worth the money mate |

Nah the FH units are all double din. DEH = single din. Also, if it isn't much more, get the FH800BT.
ps: The F and the E in FH and DEH are the din sizes. |

| deff get it hardwired from the deck. it sounds so much better hardwired. my ipod sits in my glovebox and it charges while it plays.. |

yea I saw that, but I don't see spending the extra money for it to say Premier next to Pioneer ;) They do give it an extra year of factory warranty, but I didn't look real close as to any other significant changes/upgrades for the money. I can't see them using better caps or anything like that on the production line as that would require a bit more cost. |
