i would suggest that you go to an audio shop with a reference cd (which includes some tracks you know intimately) and try them out. Whilst i have k701s (which i really like) what i think is important with both headphones and monitors if firstly, that you can hear what you are doing, and secondly, that you know how they translate to other speaker types.

My vote goes for Sony MDR 7509HD - I love them. They're not cheap buy YGWYPF.

happy with my DT990s

AKG 271 is good at mid range and has very good stereo imaging, although they lack low end compared to DT 770 Pro, 271s are more honest overall.

I have the DT990 Pro (open headphone), really excellent stuff! And really comfortable to!

It comes to personal preference the guy that said hd25's and mdrv's are no good for production due to being closed back. Who cares?

Sometimes when i am in my hd25s and I close my eyes I could swear I am actually there (on the dancefloor i mean)

Aks i assume are better but i still maintain that hd's sound awesome and I have achieved some great sound quality levels in them.

Agreed I only use my mdrvs for djing

Best thing is dude go to a music shop like by me they have a stand with all the top headphones on and a cd playing you press a button and select which onee to listen too check them all out.

Actually you will when after 5min your head and ears get so hot you can't stand to have them on your head anymore.

Happens to me and my ear always itches, the left one. It's producing more wax too after a session which is odd.

I seriously need to get some studio phones instead of my DJ ones.
