Attn: All talented DJ's
As you may know by now starting September 10th BUZZiN.TO will be launching a new weekly Wednesday night at THE BASEMENT.
We often get asked how to get a slot at The Basement on a Sunday. Well before jumping the gun, we are now accepting demos from DJ's who are interested in spinning on Wednesday nights at The Basement. DJ's with the best technical performance, crowd reaction, and promoting skills will earn themselves a residency spot on Sundays at The Basement.
This night is designed to bring out all the hidden gems of this city. DJ's who are frustrated and believe that they deserve to showcase their talent in a proper nightclub are encouraged to participate.
Please note: we do NOT accept LINKS to your demo, myspace, website or anything electronic for that matter. Even if you live far far away. Kindly please make an effort to come down to The Basement on a Wednesday night and show us that you are serious. We can have a cold beer, you can submit your demo, and drop your resume on us.
Looking forward to meeting you all...
Thank you in advance

I know where you're comin' from budd, but that's how the business goes these days..a lot of up and coming talent ( some really great ones I might add), but if they don't bring the crowd, the clubs won't even look @ them a second time.. |

I definately do not, and think it's very reasonable for an event organizer to want the djs to promote the show.
I play both roles. Organizer/event manager as well as dj for all the Nightdreamer events in Hamilton.
from the organizers/manager perspective: Each name on that flyer should make my job, as an organizer & promoter of the event, easier to get people in the door. I pay serious money for a headliner, cause his/her name is making my job easier to get people in the door. If "dj so and so from down the street that no one cares about but plays good tunes" isn't drawing a crowd from my general promotions, he better be bringing in some people to help fill the room and make for a better event/party.
When your name makes my job easier by drawing people in the door, you can slow down with the promo and just be the dj instead of the dj/promoter.
for myself, from a dj's perspective: I want my crew there in full force chearing/dancing/supporting...when my friends dig it, I have more fun whch inturn rubs off on the people who haven't heard me dj. which in turns makes a good impression on the organizer/promoters of who evers party I'm playing at, which results in a better chance of getting boked again, which hopefully will lead to more gigs.
If yer lazy and don't want to promote, I suggest you don't goto the basement on wednesday night ;) (for the record, I have nothing to do with the basement...just voicing my opinion from my experience)

exactly. i know a number of djs that go the extra mile and promote all the events they are booked for and they have a manager as well. that is one of the reasons why it keeps them in business. |

the only way you`ll get gigs is if you promote the gigs you do get. It`s always been like that and will be until the end of time in every city on the planet.. The exception being DJs that have a following and that takes time to build. |
