i'm remixing a jazzy-ish downtempo track and i was thinking about improvising with guitar over a breakdown. cheesy idea or not? what do you think of guitars overall in edm?
my opinion
in trance it's rarely done well, especially when the guitar is the focal point of the track (i.e. the guitar is the main melody)
in house it's hit or miss, but a few stabs and improvised chords here and there add to the overall track.

Do what you think sounds good... if it doesn't, scrap it... |

A lot of downtempo/chillout tracks use guitar riffs. So, it's not going to make your track sound like something completely new and innovative, nor is it going to sound out of place, so give it a try and see how it turns out.
And, remember, cheeziness doesn't come from what you use; it comes from how you use it. In other words, if it's done poorly, it will sound cheesy, but if it's done well, it will sound fine. |
