4hr long gigs

Anyone had these such long gigs to share their experience?

having one up in 2 weeks and now i am ting my pants..

things i am worrying about are

mixing fatigue. the max i mixed was only 2.5 hrs. this is freaking 1.5hr longer than my record

And also track selection. obviously i cant have a ready song list of 4 hrs. so any "tips" for such lengths of time?

I was thinking of having some filler tracks, to clear the floor occasionally or to bring the mood down.

You going to be playing all electronic music or mixed?

4 hours goes by pretty fast for me when im spinning. I think if you play fun tunes it should go by pretty quick.

Looks like he took care of that part already.

4 hours isn't so bad.

first and foremost, have a lot of really good music. you don't really want to be in the situation where you have to play something because you have nothing else left.

don't use filler. tell a story, with different scenes and chapters and a variety of interesting characters. every track is crucial.

give yourself and a crowd breaks by playing longer tracks every once in a while. give yourself a break by playing tracks with the same tempo

4 hours is really not a long gig at all.

Make sure you know where the bathroom is and make sure you have enough music, there really isn't anything else to it.

x2

I played an 8 hour gig once and it positively FLEW - I could easily have played for another 2 or 4 hours.

Once you get into the right mindset, everything just flows. beat matching becomes effortless after the first few hours.

I'd love another chance to play a set like that.

The bigtime dj's do they have any say over how long their sets are? Like say if someone isn't content with spinning 2 hour sets, when making tour dates do they have any say with clubs and promoters over wanting to spin more or less then the usual (2hrs) time?

Im curious because my main point of each set is to start out somewhere and end somewhere else. The longer the set I think the better it could be.

However being a clubber myself, I do not think that the people on the floor could last more then 4 hours or so.

Brings a predicament to the theory.

Also. for the OP. It really depends how you play but all my sets tell a story as mentioned above, if you're the same way you could just lengthen the intervals between switches in tempo, genre, energy, etc.

Atleast that is what I would do. 4 hours is nothing though, you'll do fine. Just make sure you play something for the first hour that gets you amped and then its all downhill from there.

I would just throw down a 4 hour practice set at home and once you get to the club you'll feel more prepared.

Just my 2 cents!
