Another school in lockdown today. A few more weeks of this and it'll stop making headlines.

Wednesday September 17, 2008
CityNews.ca Staff
Just one day after a student was shot - and then charged - in an incident at a Toronto school, police are back at another campus on Wednesday. The reason: a report of yet another teenager bringing a gun inside.
Victoria Park Collegiate Institute on Wallingford Road in the York Mills and Victoria Park area, is home to about 1,341 pupils. When calls came in to police just after 2pm Wednesday that one of them was seen with a gun in his waistband, the campus was placed in immediate lockdown and an all-out search begun.
Nothing has been found so far, and these things often resolve themselves with nothing being discovered. But the report coming on the heels of Tuesday's tragedy has left many on edge - and some waiting to be let out of their classrooms once police determine if any danger actually exists.
The Emergency Task Force is on the scene as are 15 to 20 squad cars. No shots have been fired and no one has been hurt.
School would have been dismissed by 3:30pm, but remained in lockdown with no students allowed in our out.
Like Tuesday's incident, parents have rushed to the school waiting for any news on their children. They've gathered outside the campus and some have attempted to call the students stuck inside on cell phones.
A staging area has been set up at 248 Cassandra Blvd, the east side of the tennis courts. Relatives are asked to wait for students there. |

I knew something was going on with helicopters flying around my house all afternoon.
and last week a student was attacked with a meat tenderizer at my old school.
Awful. |

^^ wow, RJ. do you truly believe that? |
Not this debate again. Murders and assaults are overwhelmingly concentrated in areas where the law does not permit civilians to carry firearms or other weapons. Escalations are merely a theoretical risk that has yet to find any root in reality.
There's nothing to believe or disbelieve. Crimes of this kind simply do not happen with any regularity in places where people are, or might be, armed. |

ugh, this again :)
where is the evidence behind that assertion?
I think it alters the playing field. but to suggest there isn't violent crime, just because people are armed...I don't believe that for a second. |

How about any of the research papers or entire books written by John Lott or Gary Kleck? Are they not credible sources? |

I had to add to this thread.
I was reading the sunday paper this evening and found out that there was a shooting at **MY** school in the bronx on friday night after a dance.
(my school, meaning where I work....an alternative school in the BX).
for s sake this is happening WAY too much here. like, ridiculous amounts. And to think, I have to go back to work with these faces tomorrow. in idiots.
Read: the bronx section of the NYPD blotter about Columbus high school.

the funny thing is, I know exactly the store they are talking about, there is a bodega right across the street, where all these idiots hangout right after school and always start .
Isnt it nice that a few people got shot and it got like one paragraph in a 200 page-paper? its the norm here.
   I ing hate NYC sometimes. |

that's some kelly :(...i wonder how you do it everyday. i ing hate ghetto people and you must be a good person to deal with them all day everyday.
as for nyc that's what's so sad, so much stuff is always going on here that every issues gets next to nothing written about it. if that were back home in oregon that would be the top story for the day news...another reason why i don't like living in nyc all that much |

If this trend keeps up, who'd want to be an educator, when you don't feel safe at your workplace? (and lower quality of public education in the future)
Man, lippy kids deserve a good beating. |
