Hey guys, I've been playing around with fruityloops for about a month and found myself making bits and pieces of songs here and there, then last night created what I thought was an awesome lead and developed it into some kind of song over 12 hours today.

Im no expert with this stuff, only know a few of its capabilities im sure which is why I'm looking for critique.

The track hasn't been mixed down, I'm gonna be getting help with that tomorrow, but what you will here is the general consensus of the song.

Just wondered what you guys think I'm doing right/wrong, good/bad and a few techniques or things that could improve the track.

Thanks in advance and seriously cant wait to read some of the crit's

Matt

If you send me the file or post up a link to the flp zip I'll do a remix...

funfun..

The instrmental characteristics are a bit weak to my tastes.

Not bad --- wont say more than that...

I understand some of what you're saying, especially now listening to it without headphones.

Do you think if I turned down the channel volume for the distorted lead this would help at all? I mean, the lead is meant to be distorted, maybe this is too distorted though, but like I say listening without headphones I'm struggling to pick out much more than the bass and clap.

Sounds like you need to get a stronger kick in there and a few more supporting motifs. The main lead is balanced a little too loud compared to everything else. Distortion is fine, I wouldn't change too much about the characteristics of the lead until you have a better idea what the rest of the mix will be like.

From Alaska myself and its a pretty inspirational place to live/visit ;)

Thanks for the crit, i appreciate it.

Ye the more I listen the more I can tell the kick just isnt good enough thats gonna be my first port of call later on, but do you think turning the volume down on the distortion channel will help the track overall?

Yea just turn down the gain on the lead and it should do fine. Also play with the EQ on the lead and cut out what you don't need. Shouldn't need anything on it sub 300 hz for example

Thanks for the detailed reply there and I will send you a copy in 10 minutes, but just for future reference, I'm in total agreement how the distortion starts well but then kinda lacks something - what do you think I could do with it to improve this sound later on in the track?

And also, am i sending the MP3 or the FL file?
