Rotary Mixers (pg. 2)

If you're gonna go rotary, do it classic rotary... nothing like having the big knobs spaced out properly. Plus the gain structure is better, a lot of the linears with rotary kits use the same gain structure for both faders and pots:

I do love the Xone 92 rotary and the Rane Empath rotary as well...
Allied Nations
the rane 2016 is nice... good big room mixer, really good sound

i play on the xone 92R at my residency every week... what a dream!

I find all of the vestax rotaries to be hideous!

I just bought a 92 Linear, loving it so far. Still getting used to it though. Need to have a proper 5 hours session on it though.

If you have the money, Dooooo it!

I've owned several high end mixers now:

Denon DN-X1500 (the "lowest" high end) - actually a great mixer for the price, amazing feature set for what you pay. A little more complicated than the DJM-800, but half the price and it's really quite nice. Check it out. No rotary option, though.

Xone 92 rotary - loved it! Great A&H sound. Awesome filters. Only drawback is the send/return could be better. I think what the new Xone 42 has is actually better (for an efx loop), otherwise, it's pretty much perfect. (midi is lacking on the 92, but who cares, really).

Xone 3D: Sounded amazing, even better than the Xone 92. But MIDI latency and an inadequate sound card made me sell it. The Xone 4D seems to have fixed these complaints though. Of course, it's not a rotary! But I got impatient waiting for the Xone 1D/2D,and bought this.

Rane 2016a + XP 2016a: My current mixer. It's awesome, sounds awesome, is "just what you need" and nothing more. Faders are super smooth... layout is nice and spaced out, classic design. Only drawback is you have to have it rack mounted (connections are on the very bottom like most classic rotaries)... so you need a special desk.

But honestly? If I hadn't sold my Xone 92 rotary for the Xone 3D, I'd still have it. It's an AWESOME mixer (though I'm totally happy with my Rane too). You really can't go wrong :) If you don't like it, return it or sell it for nearly what you paid. In this price range, it's all preference :)

How would you compare the faders on the 2016 to the 92's?

There's so much going on with the 92 that I'm only getting used to it now. On my Vestax PCV 275 I used to have to cue both channels so i could hear both decks in my cans. Only figure out last night that i dind't have to do the same with the xone. Cue the channel that isn't playing out and you have the 'add mix' dial then to help with hearing what's playing out at the time.

Love it!

Filters are deadly, but again still trying to get used to them.

Faders instead of pushing them up (as i don't like how loose they are) I place my finger on the fader now and push down and up. The rail they're on is soooo smooth! :)

All in all I'm really happy with it.

Wow, those mixers look amazing but the nobs look way too big on some of them for my taste but that's just preference.
