They do? I've been studying them for quite a few years, and I've never seen this kind of thing :p

They bow A LOT, at least from what I've seen. Like A LOT!

Just as often as we shake hands, actually. They do bob their heads a lot more often, though.

That's what I meant. I was at the city with some friends a few weeks ago and we met these japanese girls that were exchange students and while talking to them half the time they would be looking at us and the other half at the ground. Very awkward.

They don't really find eye contact very pleasant either, by the way :p

You're not suppose to look people higher than you (ie your boss, parents, etc) or strangers in the eye.

Sign of disrespect.

Kinda funny because in western culture, if you don't look people in the eye when you're talking to them that's being rude.

I still find myself looking away at people when I'm talking to them from time to time, and I'm almost a white guy

Oh, got it. I was confused because I don't know what you look like :)

I remember the time I had a Japanese exchange student.

Apparently it's polite in Japan to smack/chew your food loudly to show you're enjoying it. By the end of the fortnight, I couldn't be in the same room as the guy during mealtimes for fear of punching him in the face.
