Hi all !
Looks like I'm back into producing after few months off. I bought an Oxygen49 few weeks ago and producing is back. So far I was using my Sennheiser HD280 along with my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra but I would like to get monitors speakers.
Just to give you a bit of history, I did, back in January-February, a topic about monitors speakers. Back in these days, I've listen to A LOT of monitors speakers and found out that my 2 best were the KRK and Event. The Event were incredible and the first one that I would choose to produce. They are so much precise and flat, it just sounds right. These were KRK RP6 vs Event TR6.
I did not buy any monitors speakers due to money reason. Now I'd be ready to get a pair, but looking at the stores this morning, I found out that KRK released the G2 and claims that they have a better sound than before. Anyone had a chance to listen to them ?
At this moment, I'm debatting between the Event ALP5 or the KRK RP5. I would like to have a 5 inches woofer because I'm in a small room. 6 inches could be for my DJ setup, but later.
Basically what I'm looking for with this topic, is to find if KRK has really improved their sound and is now better than the Event. I'm not able to go in store and check them out myself for few days, so this is why I'm posting here. Also, if somebody can comment on the ALP5 compared to the TR6. Power is not really relevant for me, I want quality and a flat sound to produce. Quality is all I want.
Cheers mates ! :)

Beware that you'll be missing low end with 5". I have the KRK RP8 G2's and I find them very good to work with, even on high volume. |

No,
I just drove off to a shop in germany after a long research period on internet. The only ones they had were G2's. These seemed to be the best price/quality. The salesman in musicstore confirmed that these are great value, especially now with the second generation G2's. I focussed on these ones, compared them to some other pairs. The mackies sounded great of course but are a lot more expensive. The KRK's sounded better imo than the yamaha hs 80 m, which are in the same price range. After all it's also down to personal taste.
To return on the bass subject: I was suprised how much more bass these give compared to 6". When loud enough, you really "feel" the bass which is great :D . |

from what I've read back in February, the KRK RPx (that was the G1 back then) have a slight boost in the bass, so it's not completely flat. The Event TR6 are completely flat, but the ALP5 seems to have a small boost in the mid.
This is why I was wondering about the G2...KRK said that they increased the accuracy of the monitors...I'm gonna try to head to the shop as soon as possible to test these. |

those new KRK looks plastic too me. i dont know tho but u can often determinate quality by the quality of the look of it (no i dont mean colors and fancy design but more how heavy and non-plastic it looks).
event tr6 looks more pro but i have no idea realy. |

The Yamaha HS-80 M's are perfect, I love them. The KRK's are NOT flat monitors. I use them for my dj setup and love them for that and I also use that as a secondary listening point for production but the Yamahas are great speakers to produce on. They are near field FLAT monitors. Sometimes I feel like people hold being flat against them except that its a huge benefit mixing on flat speakers.
For production, especially a 5 inch, I say there is none better for the value and price and I tested tons before I bought them. |

I had a listen to the Yamahas and did not like them. They were very good, but I did not enjoy the sound coming out from them. I guess there are some personal taste here :)
But I agree, the Yamahas are one of the most rated monitors on the market (as far as I seen on the websites). |

5 inch monitors are useless without a sub... and using a sub has it's own issues.
wait an extra week or two and get 6" monitors. |
