Hahah, are you really serious, or just trolling?

(1) I've attended multiple 18+ house shows that weren't quite sold out. The easiest example is Danny Howells, who was hyped here for some time and couldn't fill half of Opera's floor. Then again, some trance shows haven't attracted huge crowds, either. But Armin, Paul van Dyk, Tiesto? I've met people who've driven hours to attend these shows, and the venue's almost always filled to capacity.

(2) What, you just contradicted yourself. Is trance some obscure and irrelevant genre solely for the glowstick-waving, rolling zombies, or is it shallow, oversaturated pop music for mass appeal? It can't be both. Pop stands for popular, by the way.

(3) Okay, can you really back this up? I typically hear large crowds chanting the DJ's name, but I'm sure they just read it off a flyer or something.

I cant remebmer all the shows i have gone to, but i have never been to a show that is not packed. From ferry to Sasha, Armin to Sander. Every time i go to a show is ing full and it would be nice to go to one of these shows that are less full :p

I have to take a swing at this myself.

1: If he really can sell out any 18+ show, then take a chance and bring some of these people we've been talking about. You can't honestly believe that can you? I know Devin does a great job, but as mentioned, there have been many shows that have had a less than stellar turn out.
2: What are you talking about? Just because we want some more trance that makes us "candy trancers?" I know there are plenty of the "Zomg AVB, PVD, Tiesto" people, but have you ever thought some of us actually do like the music?
3: Why would people not know who Markus Schultz is? He's a big name. Yes, there are always people who just come because there is music coming out of the speakers, but are you saying this only happens for trance?

Our minds are to delicate to handle house? haha. Maybe it's just that we don't like crappy music. haha
I hope you aren't serious with all this, because I've never seen you act like the "elitist house listener" before. Why do you believe any of these no name house djs would pull in any more people than the lesser known trance ones? I would love to hear your theory.

What? How exactly is house crappy? Please explain.

Well, I'm not sure I have enough time to fully explain. lol. Though, I will say not all of it is crappy. I like people like Prydz and some of the more progressive stuff for example. But for the most part I find it simplistic, repetitive, and lacking substance and melody.

Exactly what I was thinking, your right on! Too repetitive, lacks substance (feels like something is missing in the track). Some of the more progressive house I don't mind. But most of it is way too simple. Seems like any one of us could make some of these house tracks on 'fruity loops' on our computers. House is pretty much a trance song without the melody, just the 'thump'

broheem, there is a place called spring 4th for all the candy kids with their beads n . i'm pretty sure the 'candy trancers' don't go to see tiesto, armin, pvd. they go to see more of the underground psytrance dj's you've never heard of. plus what's wrong with tiesto, pvd, armin. i know they are way past their peak but tiesto 2000-2003, no one could touch him. same with pvd. and armin is still good as a dj, he spins some sick tracks, his OWN songs that he produces for the most part aren't that grat, but when he mixes a set it's pretty much sick most of the time. there are also other sick dj's that still haven't reached their peak such markus schulz, nic chagall, rank1, jochen miller. m.i.k.e is another sick dj. trust me bro, yes your average daddy's little girl in college probably doesn't know what all these dj's play, but i guarantee you they will rock the house (no pun intended) more than most of these house dj's.

btw, i don't know why we're making music into politics, it's meant to be enjoyed and had fun to. not stressed and argued over. each person has a different taste

peace out!

Good house music is better then good trance music imho. That's not saying there's not CRAP from both sides.

I think I grew out of trance because I got sick of hearing the word "epic" to describe music, and most trance DJ's seem to chase that "epic" sound. Too dramatic. Overdone, overused...

As a person who loves Trance and House. I can safely say our Trance shows have been the biggest shows in Atlanta.

This has a lot to do with, for lack of a better phrase, fake fans coming to see PvD/Tiesto/Armin.

The only Trance set that I can remember that has been underpopulated since 2004 has been Above & Beyond. Laurent Garnier was even pretty crowded (and he was 21+) until about 2am when it started thinning out. Granted I can't come to all the shows and so there might be others. But as it is, PvD/Tiesto have actually sold out Tabernacle and the Gwinnett Civic Center or whatever that place was.

Music is music.

Bring both House and Trance DJs. Trance gets repetitive. But don't fool yourself into believing that House DJs are as popular as Trance DJs. As taboo as DJMag might be, it's a perfect example, Trance gets more exposure and is more popular. That's just how it is. It doesn't mean Trance is better, it really doesn't. But Trance is more popular and does draw bigger crowds.

We really need to work on getting 18+ weekend shows in the city. Monday and Thursday nights are part of the reason the shows don't get as crowded as they should. The only Friday events we had were 21+ at WETbar.

18+ Friday night events would draw more crowds, I wish there was a way to make this happen. I know Opera for example has basically top40 nights Friday/Saturday which are guaranteed money maker nights.

I do agree we shouldn't aim for the mega trance every show, that would ruin the "magic" that Schulz and company brings. But I definitely think the current number of Trance DJs coming through is lacking.

There are dozens of amazing Trance DJs out there that will bring the heat and I'm sure could draw a crowd if given the chance.

I travel to D.C. and Miami to see Trance DJs. Some people will travel from D.C. and Miami to come here if we had a Trance name like Nic Chagall or Aly & Fila. The names that Trance fanatics love but never get to see in the states.

Food for thought!
