There was an article in the Sydney Morning Herald recently on Couch Surfing. If you haven't heard of CS before, and if you're somebody who loves to have a local experience when travelling (instead of a tourist experience), then check it out.

but yes, the local exp can be good... comes down to where you go i suppose.
and i've met/know some people that have used CS. Pretty much all seemed to have had hits/misses but atleast there's that feedback system ;) . Better results doing the same thing through people/groups you know though. |

I've only had positive experiences through CS, and I've hosted a stack of people now in Toronto. As a surfer, I've surfed in NYC, Montreal, Ottawa, and soon Quebec City.

Sure, like when I go back to visit Sydney I'm going to be staying with my friends and family. That goes without saying.
In situations where you're travelling to a place foreign to you and you don't know anyone then CS can be very useful.
Of course CS is not for everybody.
My next trip to Europe (summer '09) will basically be a CS tour and I'll be surfing with people who I've hosted so I know I'll be in good hands.
Jake (Tathi) was the one who introduced me to the site and I know he had awesome experiences through South America so if he's reading this I'm sure he could share his thoughts on the site and project. |

yeah i agree with the whole organisation, im starting to use it now while im still in europe, although its come a little too late, but its ony 1/2 of it, i mean... once im home, have my own place and all i would love to host people from around the world, i guess after traveling around my mind has changed about traveling and travelers aswell!!! i would feel very comfortable accepting people into my home and take them down the great ocean road and show them what Victoria is good for!
there seems to be quite a big comunity around Melbourne for CS so yeah once again, another way to meet people no matter how close or far away they really are! |
